I was shocked as everybody with me. My instant reply was "at this age, you gonna take care of them, seriously" and he replied yes, he have to.
let me rewind the whole story from the beginning..
It was around 2 of morning when we stopped by on our way to Sambhar to grab some tea and snacks. #@2am, on a deserted road, where there was no one for kilometers. he was there taking drags of his bidi ( a cheap cigarette ).
As always, eager to talk to old people, I went to him & greeted him as "daddduuuuuu (grandpa) as i have known him already. with his angry young man look he replied, "dikhta nahi mujhe, kaun ho, m nhi janta"( I can't see properly, who are you, I don't know you ?!! )I was like...okay!!! Then we ordered ourselves with some tea and our all time favourite snack "bhujia".
while sipping our teas, we started asking him questions like "puri raat yahin rehte ho dadu?" (you are here all night? ) "how far is Sambhar" "is Sambhar beautiful? " to which all he replied was "haan, hmm etc" and we realized that daddu is not interested in talking to us at all. So we started conversing with each other.
Then suddenly, dadu came up with a question" a man has 20 domestic animal consisting of cow, goat & buffaloes. they give 3 liter, quarter liter, 5 liter of milk a day respectively. At the end of the day, its 40 litre. guess the ratio of cow, goat, buffalo and goat". We all gave each other a confused look and as we started a little of calculation that he came up with another riddle stating a man has 4 measuring weight, using which he do all the measuring of all kind of weights. name the weights. And now he started laughing as he kept coming up with all such riddles saying "such answers are hard to find even in you school and hence he started opening up telling us about around the place things and asking us about us. In between. we saw a small kitten's paw coming out under a shutter trying to release herself from the room to which we helped her do so. As soon as we pulled up the shutter, she came out moving and ran towards dadu. she was his pet, whom he thought was naughty enough to keep loose. she sat there on his lap, enjoying his warmth while he was patting the small creature with his giant hands. It was actually an "awww moment".
Later we discovered that dadu was 85 years old, being an ex-CID cop & a military trained. He showed us pictures of him @ 18 of his age and no doubt he was damn handsome then too. he still has his on duty cap with him.
After long hours of talking and listening, we realized it was already 5:15 am and we shall leave now. so we went to say goodbye to dadu to which he said "It's hard to say goodbye to you kids. It's been really long since i have actually opened up to anybody like this. It really broke my heart. I wish you all could stay" WE WERE SPEECHLESS !!!
One arrogant person who was not interested i taking to anybody of us was bidding us such a heavy goodbye.
Then he asked me to drop him mu address and contact no. so that he can meet us whenever he comes to Jaipur. On this i, I asked him to come along and he said "no kids, I can't come along. i have children to take care of "
