We are visual people and yet we forget this sometimes. The best way to keep your goal in mind is to keep it in front of you. Have you seen the yogurt commercial for the dieter who reminds herself by hanging out her bikini? What is your goal and how do you keep it in mind? Are you tempted to do other things instead of the work needed to get where you are going? Here are some ways you can keep your goal in front of you:
1. Write it on a Post-It note and put it on your bathroom mirror so you see it first thing in the morning and last thing at night.
2. Place Post-It notes on your car dashboard, in your desk drawer (where you reach for a pen), and your wallet or purse. Our lives are so busy with other things that this one small change will probably produce an ‘oh yeah’ when you see it.
3. Even better, find a picture of your dream/goal or something that represents it and put IT in plain sight to remind you. Look through magazines or search google images for pictures to print and cut out to use.
4. Make a vision board and place it somewhere you can see it all the time. (I will write more details on the vision board in my next post.)
These are just a few ways to keep that goal in the forefront of your mind so that you keep taking the steps needed to get where you want to go. Remember, if your goal is always in front of you, it makes it more difficult to ‘forget’ to choose the path toward it.
A vision is not just a picture of what could be; it is an appeal to our better selves, a call to become something more.
