The rush of the holidays is over, so now what?
Imagine yourself sitting in a roller coaster and waiting for the ride to start. It moves slow at first, going inch by inch, until it starts to pick up speed. You go twisting and turning until you suddenly come to the top of the largest drop. As you look over the edge you can feel the excitement bubbling up in your stomach and it seems as though you will hang in the air forever. Then you fall. Fast and faster you go, falling down the steep incline, until the ride is over and all that you are left with is the memory.
That’s like the holidays. Every year you start preparing yourself and waiting for the glorious day to come. The closer that it gets, the more excited that you become until, finally, you are sitting at the top of the drop and just waiting to fall over the edge. But what happens once the ride stops? How do you pick yourself up after that amazing, glorious, heart-pounding rush? How do you go back to your day to day lives now that you no longer have the holidays to look forward to? It may feel like you’re in a slump--a sort of aftermath that you wish that you could avoid.
You aren’t alone. Every year people all across the globe have this same reaction. It doesn’t have to be that way, though! Instead of sitting around, gloomy and depressed because the tree is being taken down and the presents are unwrapped, here are a few things to try.
Look at photos! During the holidays everyone becomes a photographer. Photos are taken from every angle of every person, place, or thing that was done. Go back through and look at them all! Reliving those memories will put a smile on your face and give you something to talk about with everyone that you meet.
Go shopping! If you are like me, then you have some super cool family members that treated you with gift cards this season. Go ahead and make use of them! No one is going to judge you for spending them and almost every store has amazing post-holiday sales going on. Even if you don’t want to spend anything you’ll still be happy to get out of the house for a little while.
Write thank you cards! Consider this to be killing two birds with one stone. Do you remember all of those gifts that you got a few days ago? Do you remember the people who got them for you? The probably deserve a thank you. Even if it was a simple card from your Great Aunt Ida, it will make her day to know you appreciated it. Plus, it will give you a chance to look back on the day and remember what, and who, helped to make it so special.
No matter what you do, or how you choose to beat the after Christmas slump, remember that there are more things to life than one day of glory. The food, the presents, and the music are all wonderful, but it truly is the time spent with those who care about you, and the memories that you create, that makes it such a wonderful season. Besides, it will be back again in a mere 364 days!
Yes Xmas is over but I had much fun
Happy to know that :-)
