Whether one is black, bold, sick, gay, alcoholic or anything else in between, should not (by any means) have any impact on how they should be treated. Grouping oneself under an ideology based on an arbitrary characteristic is by itself a discriminatory act. The individual accepts that their specific characteristic is special and that it should be treated differently from all the rest. This is how the filth of politics is created.
If every single human on earth chose to complain under a political frame in regards to how they should be treated then no one really would have any rights or privileges other than the ones complaining the most. This is what democracy entails after all. Those who win political movements are the ones who organize themselves in fractions in order to whine about something that others should be doing for them. They create multiple minorities such as LGBT, Black Lives Matter, Guns Rights and since they are the ones that care to take part in the toxic democratic system, their impact in social strata is massive.
This is how we ended up with all this political correctness all around us. This is how we get absurd ideologies such us "no gender" or fields such as "women's studies". This is how every tv show begun to look shady since the black/women/white/gay ratio looks forced just to keep appearances. Some shows make it so obvious. Even though that some groups like homosexuals and blacks are minorities in countries like the United States the way and rate they are portrayed implies they are the crashing majority that is somehow suffering under a fictional white male figure.
For those that were brought up in the 1900's this change is all too noticeable. We also acknowledge that there is not much to be done about it since this is how politics work. As a society we value politics instead of honesty. The people who end being politicians are often those who try to fool the masses by deflecting social responsibility. People vote for those who will give them things. The needy ones, the leeches and scoundrels end up electing the filth that govern us. They do after all have to embrace the same values if they want to be elected.
I'm old enough to remember a few politicians in The Netherlands who actually put forward a vision for the whole of society you could vote for. These days, politicians seem to be no more than representatives, front men, salesmen, for separate groups' interests, or pushing a specific misguided economic creed that only benefits a few. One or two parties are still an exception, but they are a, um, minority.
It would be far more efficient to vote for the lobbyists and do away with the farce EU parliament has become. We're run by corporations anyway; the narrative of representing certain groups or minorities is only there to attract votes.
In today’s society we need to elect people that will respresent us with good changes. Many younger folks do not even vote and complain about the political/economic/ and social system being a certain way. We have to create change , the step begins with US!
How do they represent us?
How can it be that someone that represents me can do things I myself can not do.
Let's say I represent you, and I tell you what you must do, and may not do, and must pay for.. And not only that I also do that with all the other people (in your name). Isn't that kind of strange?
"They serve us" is another sentence that does not make sense at all. Someone that serves you does not boss you around and punish you if you disobey. That is not a servant but a master, and you serve the master.
edit I believe making good changes and choices is up to me, to appoint a master that makes everyone (including me) make the good changes and choices for them by forcing them (and me)
I'm sorry but that idea sounds very strange to me. I believe that I can not force my opinion or ideology onto someone else, with violence via the political religion and pretend that than the world would be a better place for it.
That's how I see it anyway.
cheers
if the leader leads his own desires not because of God's command, then do not expect him to be honest and fair to everyone, greedy passion will destroy us.
You just narrated democracy in my country, people vote for people because they feel that they will get something in return for their vote weight, that's how leadership in the world had turned out to become these days
Smallest minority is in the end the individual. I do not understand why so many people what to renounce their individuality and be part of an amorphous group. Then again few people give an hours though on basic principles...
While I generally agree. Id like to give a sort of counter argument, partly just for arguments sake. And politics aside. Most “minorities” as you’ve described above have probably suffered some form of cruelty, human-injustice, physical or mental harassment, etc.
And if someone is not of one of those specific “minorities,” it would be physically and perhaps virtually impossible to understand what that might feel like, respectively depending on the type of “minority. And I’m potentially speaking exclusively from the perspective of a non“minority” person.
Thus, my logic is, if I were to agree with the overall notion of your post, it could be attributed to the fact that I am a person who has not yet (or never will have) experienced what it is like to be a “minority.”
Now to touch upon the political correctness phenomenon or hyper-sensitivity, I feel like this is partly attributed to politics.
The other aspect, of this country (USA), that is engrained in politics, is law or the legal system. The ease of which one entity can sue another for something, that might have easily been avoided or settled otherwise is astounding. Which tends to eventually lead to it evolving into law.
And so, we have begun to see a trend of hyper-sensitive generations that may or may not be somehow connected to this over litigious society.
When you add politics into the equation everything gets skewed. When there might initially have been a sound, just, and impartial legal system, the politician will do whatever is necessary in order to sway things in their own favor.
Excuse the rant. But I think it’s always good to asses things as diplomatically and as objectively as possible.
