So many people I know are working at really crappy jobs and waiting for the right moment to start doing what they love.
In case it isn't clear this is not aimed at people who are happy with their jobs.
I've got news for you there will never be a right moment. If you are making just enough to cover bills and live in poverty how do you expect to have this magical "right moment"? Winning the lottery? Now, let me also say I understand not everyone can just quit their job. You may have to work insane hours by trying to monetize the things you love on your off time. Not ideal but I went to college and worked full time and still worked on my art. It can be done. We are capable of far more than we realize. Heck, I am so disabled I can't leave my home and I am still pushing myself forward financially by monetizing my talents.
Don't listen to all the people telling you it is unrealistic.
Have you heard of people projecting their own issues onto others? That is exactly what is happening with people telling you not to go for your dreams. They gave up on theirs and it probably still eats at them and they no longer believe they can achieve them. They probably mean well. They want to save you from making the same "mistakes" they did but you are not them. You can push harder, you can not give up. Start listening to yourself. Start believing in yourself.
If one route fails change course!
I have tried SO MANY things in the past 5 years of working for myself. Not all of them were winners. Sometimes I had to take on really mind-numbing low paying freelance work to fill in the gaps but I made it work. I am still constantly trying new things. I will never stop trying new things career wise as it's how I get by in life. I adapt, change, grow, learn. You can't let one failed plan get you down. Keep going. Move onto the next thing. Don't dwell on the plans that didn't work.
You may have to make a lot of sacrifices.
You may have less time for socializing. Less time for playing video games. Less time for watching television. You may be working harder than ever and making less money. You may have to cut out your lattes and designer shoes or ...whatever. It will all pay off in the long run. It is said it takes years to get a new business up and running to the point that you are profiting. The hard work happens before the pay-off. So, learn to live frugally. Work harder. Play less and just know that in the future you will be playing harder and working less than all your friends who stayed at their minimum wage jobs.
You've got this.
I have to say this again because it is the main thing holding most people back. You may not believe in yourself. Well, cut it out. You will never succeed with that attitude. Sure, we may all feel that way sometimes but if you let it consume and control you then it's gotten out of hand. I feel that way sometimes but you know what? I tell that voice to shove it and I keep working in spite of my doubts. So fine, if you don't fully believe in yourself YET then just start working anyhow and, in the mean time, try to work on those self-esteem issues. Silence the voices from the past telling you that you won't make it, that it's a pipe dream, that you are being immature. Remember, they are just projecting their failures onto you. Don't become them.
I love this post. It was as if I were reading my thoughts/words. My most challenging thing I have to watch, is self doubt if something becomes too frustrating and thereby made me put whatever it was on the backburner. I tell my son to never give up on his dream of becoming an engineer, no matter what. It took a few times for those words to sink in to my own head (on giving up) I started getting back into things I enjoy and aiming for being my own boss in 2-3 years minimum. I am grateful for my mentors in here.
:) So glad you realized the advice was not only good for your son. I am proud of you! :) You can do it.
Thank you :-) and yes, I'm glad too. Time to put my plans in motion :-)
Such a true and positive message to transmit to people. I'm just about to leave uni and so I've been facing the prospect of getting a job myself. Instead, I've decided to work for myself doing the things I love and the decision has made me feel very positive about my future and most importantly... free!! :)
Glad to hear you chose the path that will make you truly happy. :)
Great post!
The hard work does happen before the pay off, you said that right sister. What an inspirational post. I strive everyday to maintain my home and provide for my kids, while trying to work. I write on STEEMIT and so far I am holding my own. I know that if I do not give up and keep posting somewhat great and unique stuff, I will get more followers and my rep will go up and then I can make some money that I can live with and stay home more often with my kids to enjoy them, because they are only with us for such a short time. Thanks again, as always great stuff. Keep it coming.
I do have great belief in steemit but also I wouldn't put all your eggs in one basket. If you want to fully support yourself with at home jobs you may want to try some other things out? :) Just an idea. I believe in you!!
Is there anything other than Steemit that you could suggest. I have tried online blogging on sites but never got paid. So I need tried tested and true sites. Thanks
Congratulations for your post is still like this, I hope you visit my post and you like it
It is a good positive vibe and that is important. The badges are real cute. :D
Yes, a positive mindset is very much necessary. Thanks, feel free to use them. :)
Don't rule out the idea some people may actually like their current job.
STEEM On !!
Dave
XD I added a little disclaimer at the top that this is not aimed at people who like their jobs. I thought it was implied. :) There is nothing wrong with having a job if you love it. ^_^
You didn't need to take my comment that seriously, but thanks for the update
Dave
hehe XD I just want people with jobs to know that if they love em they are winning too!
This is clearly written for people who do not. haha
Thanks for these motivating words! I had already 3 big chances in life to became my own boss, these 3 times I didn't go for it because people in my surroundings said it is to much risk and will probably not be successfully. Well all of my ideas did happen some monts after I was deciding if I would go for it or not... And they all succeed... One of it was starting a shop in electronic cigarettes back in the summer of 2015 in Leuven... Now there are 3 shops and all maling lots of money... And I am working for a boss, 9 to 5 and can't use much of my talents and creativity... Ugh... But at least I am saving money and if I get more ideas (which will come for sure) I defently will give it a try!
Yes! Just go for it next time. Don't dwell too much on the past. Keep your eyes peeled and more opportunity will come!!
So true! And every decision you ever made had some positive consequences to, even if you can't see them so clearly!
I feel your pain on that. When my son was an infant, I was trying to design something for shopping carts to hold cups. I guess this guy in front of me took up my idea because some months later, I was stunned to see the brand new carts "with cup holders" . I was pissy and my sister said I should have followed up on the idea. Lesson learned, never drop what could be a remarkable thing :-) May your next dream happen :-)
Through your post, I was watching my life when I was reading it! It is hard to take action and change your life but at the same time, it is awesome when you achieve your goals...
I've been working for myself for about 5 years but I was kind of forced to get really serious about it and step it up when I became too disabled to work a normal job. Now, I am doing so many things I should have done a decade ago.
I believe that everything happens for a good reason, I remind that to my girlfriend when she is anxious. You are able to use your great skills as you want. :) I hope you feel better and stay positive for the rest of your life, your smile can be converted to creativity and creativity to bring more smiles! sorry for my english i hope you understand how i write my comment and i am not against to you.
Sad when that's what it takes to get me here, eh? :)
Great inspiration post. Hard work paid off. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you. :)
Inspiring post. Thank you!
