I've always been a very nice girl. Made my homework, asked politely and helped other. It made me go relatively far. However, I agree with you that sometimes being nice (specially girls) just doesn't get you anywhere and people don't listen. Then it's time to make them listen. I don't agree with this throwing books and stuff. I don't think it actually make anyone listen to you better. My approach is usually different, polite but strong. Usually it helps.
