Kirsten Flagstad’s boat is sailing again

«Prikken» is a gig, constructed in 1938 by Roland Boatyard in KRISTIANSAND.

The customer was the world famous opera singer Kirsten Flagstad:

Kirsten was just 18 years old when she had her first opera at OSLO. In 1935 she debuted at the New York opera , and is (was) considered as doing one of the greatest WAGNER - interpretations.

Her biggest parts where Isolde in the play Tristan & Isolde, and Brunhilde in Wagner’s Nibelungen.

The boat she ordered was intended to be used at her country home in Åmli, however when the war broke out the lake was regulated, and Prikken was stored in a boathouse where it was basically left to deteriorate.

When the boat was passed on to bragddøya coastal Association in 94 Where it finaly restored to Its former glory. The boat was put to sea in 2016, after many -many years of restoration.

20 feet long, 4 hp petroleum engine, and can be seen at KRISTIANSAND Odderøya between 12.june to August.

Seems to be a great and relaxing boat for voyaging while sitting down on the chair and drinking beer and enjoying the ocean view.

What a marvel of workmanship! All wood, stem to stern, inboard engine, hand rudder control.

I agree. Its a lot of work for one person. A great piece of historic craftmanship.

It reminds me of my days at the International Sailing Academy when they taught us laser sailing downwind and we saw a man was hooking up his boat with a master technique.
Simply hats off to the craftsmanship this boat received.
