High youth unemployment or high levels of youth laziness?

in #life7 years ago

Honestly, I do not want to touch anyone with this article, but if you get to know the main characters in it, you might be offended by me and doing something wrong!

For a long time, the media has been flooded with information that over 30% of young people are unemployed, that every third young person has no way of making a living. These statistics, for me, were another spasm, worry and confusion, and in the thought that I was soon on the job market I was horrified.During the holidays, I saw and read so many foolish statistics of the city: in which city are the finest ladies and the largest bust in Bulgaria or where the tallest men in the country are - then the scales tended to the view that the statistics are aimed at filling up the air from time to time and putting them in the "entertainment" column. When I was at university, I was wondering, "How will I get a job in this brutal crisis and unemployment?", "Who would hire me ?!", I was struck by terribly worrying thoughts about this uncertain future. Then, unlike my worries, I did not stay for a long time without work, I still found something that corresponded at least to parts of my ambitions. After my practice at school and as a career consultant, I encountered so many cases linked to "youth unemployment", which have nothing to do with the economic situation in the country, but rather the psychological characteristics of the "unemployed".Some of these cases will tell and I will try to present the generalized image of the young unemployed in my eyes, where is my question:"Is youth unemployment or prevailing youth laziness?"

Young unemployed №1

Like every young person, Young unemployed # 1 has little experience - he worked for several months as an electrician. His CV seemed relatively good - he graduated from two magistrates, 28 years old. For this age, I think there should have been more internship, but as it says, "a little but from the heart" . He did not know foreign languages

- English at A1 level. At the university, the base was not rich, so he never worked on specialized software, the drawings made them by hand ...We did a few consultations for which no one asked for money because we found out that his parents are in a very difficult financial situation. We have clarified with his young unemployed his interests - he wanted to work in his specialty as a car engineer, wanted to deal with electronics and cars , be part of an international company and have a chance to develop ....I did not know how, for the first time, I received a request for selection for engineers with no experience, only to be technically literate and to have English at working level. The request was from an international company for a new production line that provides the opportunity for rapid growth. The company offers to pay a salary even for the first 6 months, which took place only through trainings in the country and abroad.A socially oriented company that wants to invest in young people by offering them a good starting salary and additional benefits such as food vouchers, bonuses every 3 months, a reassessment of remuneration in a year, and according to achievements and change of position and the most unique was - the company's activities were directly related to electronics, cars and production .You already know where I was going, this Young unemployed # 1 was getting everything on a tray, plus the fact that we were negotiating with the management of the candidate's English level and they were ready to invest in that too ....You can not imagine what a joy I called him to tell him to come to the office, he caught a terrible euphoria that I found something perfect for him and he would develop exactly the way he wants and will succeed in realizing his dream for work. The unemployed youngster comes and I start excitedly to explain how this is a great opportunity for him, and if he worked for this big company for several years and gained experience, such as me, I would try to attract him to other similar companies because in Bulgaria, it is very demanding in international manufacturing companies ....Everything seemed wonderful to me until I told Young unemployed № 1 that the plant was located at 70-80 km from the capital. From the expressionless, the face of my listener took on an expression of great disgust and he sharply told me "No, in no way!"I admit I could not decide at this point how to react.I sat like a trembling with a wet rag.I could not imagine that someone who is already 28 years old does not want to leave the comfort zone and prefers to live in a final neighborhood, in a small apartment with his parents, for a year and a half looking for a job and his mother and his father barely connects both ends, but he can not start working at 70 kilometers (which is an hour from Sofia).I asked him if there were personal reasons ... for example a friend or something else that kept him, but the answer was negative again. No, no, no! There was no real reason, the company would also pay for the relocation, the lodgings, but ... again, no.Then I got into a stupor ...I thought that when I was out of work, if someone had offered me something like this ( I would like to say that in Sofia I get less salary than the one offered without the additional benefits ), I would probably have put my wardrobe on my back I'd have them run out forty miles away.Interestingly, in other countries people travel hours to work, use trains, buses, cars, but continue to work. So, youth unemployment is the number one problem - MOBILITY.

Young unemployed №2.

Regardless of the abrupt retirement of Young unemployed № 1, we had to find other suitable candidates. The procedure developed in the standard order, after tests ... interviews - in Bulgarian and English, we chose several candidates to meet with the employer personally. Young unemployed # 2 was younger than # 1, with more experience working on the field as a technical supervisor.Despite the fact that his practice so far was only in the field of construction, our employer did not mind meeting him. Young unemployed # 2 was a native of the region, where we looked for specialists and there was our own home. His last job was in Sofia as a real estate agent and paid accommodation. The money did not get him, and the job did not satisfy him.We introduced Young Employee No. 2 Employer. During the meeting, he showed a strong motivation and motivation to work, although in poor English. The employer clearly appreciated this because at the end of the interview he said he would send a written offer for appointment of Young unemployed № 2 to work.So far, you're going to tell me what the hell you are ... Yes, but not.We send a detailed offer to Young Unemployed №2 with full description of salary, additional benefits, future development plan and promotion opportunities, bonus system ... And we are waiting for our hero to send a written answer whether the offer is accepted or not.The deadline for reply expires, but from our prospective servant, no news, no bone. For some time he did not pick up the phone ... but I called in, and he finally responded, probably having had the "tingle" worrying him. He picked up and explained to me that there was another offer, which was for less money in the IT sphere, in a position that did not even know exactly what would be exactly where there is no option to grow in the next 1 year but is willing to pay the room are you in Sofia and stay in the capital ?? !!I tried to present a comparison between the essence of the two positions and his career development aspirations, since it is important that a person's work corresponds to his or her interests. There were two alternatives to Young unemployed:

  • Alternative # 1 - Working in an international manufacturing company with a very good starting salary, bonuses, transport provision, future development plan, training, working in a dynamic environment, not just on a computer, no accommodation, and good performance after 6 months can lead a team. Working in a sector where large companies in Bulgaria are few, so if they gain experience there, they can very successfully seek development and competitive reward. The horizons and opportunities ...
  • Alternative # 2 - Working in a small company like a Junior, with a lower salary, no clear prospects for development, extra - rent for the lodgings ... and, most importantly, his interests did not match the characteristics of the job, but his personality we had done psychological tests and interviews) - at all.

Unemployed № 2 did not pick up the phone any more, did not answer the offer - just escaped. Here comes the next problem, number two - Whether young people are aware of themselves, their interests, their wishes, whether they understand that the choice of profession should be in direct relationship with the personality? Do they know how to behave correctly and can say exactly and clearly "Yes I Want!" Or "No, I Do not Want!"Hundreds of times I encountered people who put up their CV for every possible position. But whether the chaotic search has the same result as passivity?I will give my last example that summarizes at least 5 people:

Young Unemployed №3 - the passive, timid job seeker.

This is the opposition of No. 2, the one who only looks at the ads, sees the demands and panics. Fear of the stranger prevails with full force and he only watches ads without trying to send his autobiography anywhere. But, if you do not ask, the answer will always be no!There's no way you can call if you do not do anything yourself. And how could you possibly have the experience of trying not to try?Young Unemployed № 3 is about 25-28 years old, just graduating from higher education, without a day of work experience, he externally demonstrates the self-confidence of knowing and can. He knows with himself and is categorical "What can not work".He looks at the ads ... he sees a requirement that he does not cover and has already given up.He has no time for nonsense, busy with many things. For example, to get up early in the morning - at 10.00 am, to have a coffee - 11.00 am, to browse nyse fida - 12.00, to have lunch - 13.00, to come out with friends - 16.00, to arrange the room - 17.00, to meet his parents for the 20.00 h, to sit in the social network - 22.00, to laugh, to rest and watch a movie - 00.00. There is a deserved dream. It's a tough life ...If the young unemployed also has a dog to bring out and his parents convinced him that they will do so, not to worry, not to hurry ...So, problem number three - dear altruistic parents, do not worry, your child is the best, the smartest, and the best.Circumstances, crises, cronyism, and unemployment are to blame your child for having nothing to do, and he likes it. So this young unemployed can successfully reach an old unemployed. And this vision has not changed, so it will remain.Parents will see the children go to sleep till the end, until the child turns out to be 30, 40, 50. Abe ... until you can.Unemployment, statistics and obstacles will always exist. It may be a little difficult at the beginning of your career, but ask someone more experienced, too, it was not easy either in the beginning or in the middle. It is important to overdo it, with a raised head and with the clear awareness that there is still a lot to learn, to try, to look for opportunities that even create a little discomfort for a certain time will be worthwhile because you will get a lot more later on.
