When I went to Jeju, I saw many spiders. I like to believe in animal guides. When I did backpack through Jeju, I was mostly alone, and walked lots, and had plenty of time to think, introspect, and breathe. It is said the spider - masters of complexity and symbols of power, mystery and patience - appear as spirit guides to remind you to imbibe their skills, to be patient, to not give up when things get chaotic, and to be creative and in touch with your intuitive side. In Ancient Egypt and American Indian tribes, I read that the spider is believed to be the mother of the world, and thus revered for her unparalleled feminine energy. And all the spiders that I saw, were with their babies ... so I'm guessing they were the mommas.
Maybe I just saw spiders because they were there ... but regardless of whether I went to them, or they came to me for a reason, there is much to learn from a spider. And I end up feeling quite blessed seeing these babies. I do not know much about the varieties below, but if you do, please do share them with me.

I call this the Lighthouse Variety
Camouflaged but she's there!
I also love the Octopus, another strong spirit animal, and hope to go swimming with her one day ... but I'm a little afraid of the ocean as of now. But this year is about killing old fears and confronting new ones!
