There comes a time in life where one must make the decision of which college to choose if they are able to. However Due to certain financial situations many have to stay in state for college which is understandable. But there are some of us who are more fortunate and are able to afford out of state tuition if we choose go out of state to continue our education To me this was an easy decision I was tired of being in Illinois and wanted to be at a college where there was not someone I knew from high school every time I walked into a building. My second semester I didn't visit home or have my parents visit the entire 4 1/2 months, it was hard but I pulled through and made the best out of those months furthering my independence. This brings me to my first reason why you should go out of state for college.
No one knows you, you can start fresh
This was one of the biggest reasons I decided to go out of state for college, where I was going no one knew who I was no one knew my history or anything about me. To me I needed this mainly because I struggled throughout high school to maintain friendships due to bullying or insecurities. This all changed when I got to college. I had a completely different mindset and was set on making a new life for myself and changing who I was completely. This change was also due to the fact that I had to be completely independent, I didn't have my mom a couple hours away If i needed help, I had to take care of myself 100% which brings me to my next point which is learning to be more independent.
Independence
Most kids I met this past freshman year of college lived close by or even in the town the college was located. These kids more often than not went home every weekend to see their parents or had them close by if they needed help. I didn't have this my parents were 14 hours away. This forced to often times figure everything out, which meant getting to the doctor if I was sick, getting food if I was tired of dorm food or seeing them if I was home sick. Over all it just forced me to live a 100% independent life knowing my parents were 14 hours away and the fact couldn't help me easily if I needed it.
These seem all very obvious if you were to choose out of state but many people do not look into the benefits of going out of state. After my first semester I was struggling to make friends and thought I had made a mistake going far away for college. But I decided to stick it out one more semester and hope for the best. This was the best decision of my life, I made so many friends each week and saw most of them on a weekly basis and through them I made even more friends. Believe me GO OUT OF STATE FOR COLLEGE! It may seem hard at first but trust me it gets better, there are thousand of others in your same situation.
