The heart pounding thrill that encompasses your body as the blades of the helicopter fly off overhead buzzes a mixture of fear and excitement into you. I stood there, on the top of the glacier, watching as the underside of the chopper left us out in the middle of no where. The adventure was about to begin.
We put on our boards and began the journey. The helicopter left us at the top of the mountain far above the tree line, but far too close to the multiple crevices. Skirting carefully along the ridge, I managed to catch a patch of ice and flipped over - hugging the ground about a meter from the edge. I thought nothing of the situation in the moment, but once around the glacier I glanced back up - I was a meter from dropping off the cliff.
Yet the track was worth it. Now was the time for the fun stuff. Alone, on the mountain, we hit the first and only tracks that day. We shot off down the mountain, a foot of powder covering our boards, and danced around the trees.
The joy off being out here was the peace of being alone. There is something surreal about skiing down a mountain in no site of any civilization, it's just you and the snow. With the wind against my face and the snow against my knees, I screamed out in the joy and appreciate of this adventure - I was in heaven.
Whistler, you were amazing. This was the trip of a lifetime and an amazing adventure. I cannot wait to be back.
Thank you for taking the time to read this post and sharing my adventure with me.
