I woke up at 2:30am, drove 100 miles on snowy roads, and began running at 5am. Two hours later, I finally crested the treacherous back-country trail to the top of Double Oak Mountain. This is what I saw.
Quite a rare sight in central Alabama, USA.
An unexpected winter storm left half the state under a calm cool white blanket of snow. Had I not committed to running another 10+ hours through these mountains, I would have spent the morning collecting photographic 'gold'.
On a morning where most residents remained in hibernation under their warm covers, I was happily enjoying nature during the Blood Rock 50 Mile Trail Race. It was a grueling journey, but the scenery made every minute worth it.
