Democracy, freedom- are we even built for such vague terms. When men could walk around accosting random people at will - two of my favorite minds talked about democracy and the responsibility it places in the hands of the everyday man. Protagoras said to Socrates, ‘when the subject of their counsel invlolves political wisdom, which must always follow the path of justice and moderation, they [Athenians (sadly I think this did not extend to women)] listen to every man’s opinion, for they think that everyone must share in this kind of virtue - otherwise the state could not exist” (Plato).

Now, we have been convinced that we should only enter the political realm once our thumbs are needed to be marked - as a sign of good citizenry. The shift from the only ‘pure’ form of democracy to whatever we are left with at this time has been immense. I’m by no means saying democracy is the correct way of running the lives of humans. I actually have a myriad of issues with democracy. However, the nations which pride themselves by their political ideology or system -have managed to lie to us all by claiming that they (politicians) are the only gate keepers to how we should set up our nations. Take the example of my nation - where they abuse the term democracy.

What the ANC basically accepted was something akin to being sold a house and being told that you have no right to change the furniture inside this house because you know nothing about design. And to make sure that they do not change such furniture, the most vague document was created - which would be interpreted by mostly old people who had been jailing these same new owners for no reason. What is happening in the country is unimaginable. An example I like to make is take the United States and how they have racially segregated their people. In South Africa we have the same racial segregation which is not going to go anywhere. Firstly, in the United States the blacks live in the ‘hood’ in South Africa they live in the bantustans and townships. The only difference is that the Blacks in 🇿🇦 make up an extreme majority but they have been told through reality that they don’t belong in white areas (price discrimination) which are urban and that they don’t belong in the economy of the country. All of which belong to a minority akin to the black population in the States. Our future must take into account the way the 🇺🇸 African American struggle has evolved and also has been stifled.

If they can measure all the plots of land in my village and give everyone equal land, at the same price for everyone- they must do the same thing to th mansions. Just like they carved out the land of my great grand father to make space for more of our Countrymen being exiled from the best spaces of our land. We must accept the same must be allowe to happen to the mansions in Bishopscourt Houghton Sandton Claremont Umhlanga.
