I bought my future with a piece of land

in #life4 years ago

I bought a piece of land -- wasn't nuthin special at first but boi was I excited.
Paid cash -- it's mine now -- now need for the banks.
Got a lot of grass I'll tell ya, nothing much else at the moment but some good grass.
Plus, we got water too -- that's the really important stuff.

I bought it because I needed it -- a place to call my own, a place to build and to create.
There was one small building on it to start -- an old barn.
Right next to the barn we had the well and then an old cement foundation -- leftover from a house that was no more.

I started off by getting a saw mill -- some good timber stands on the land.
I walked through the woods whispering with the trees -- asking them ... Which ones of you want to live forever?

A few answered my request -- a few cuts with my chainsaw and voila they were down dancing with the worms. I got them milled -- tougher than I thought -- and now I have my wood.

Wood won't be no good for a few more months so I figured I might as well start on the land. We're going to be growing grass here so I need a good fence and some cows to eat it all up. The land is fenced already but I spent a good week or so getting it up to snuff, taking out rotten polls and checking it twice.

Now that the land is ready I need a plan -- can't grow grass without a plan. We're going to have a market garden near the house -- everyone does one of those now adays, and then we'll rotate the cattle day by day.

I heard that pigs do well in the forage but I want to start off simple. Now some of that wood is letting go of it's green it's time to start building the chicken coops -- I've only built one before and nothing like this so it will be a bit of an adventure -- but I've got a nice plan for $49.99 should lead me to the promised land of broilers and laying hens.

I never really wanted chickens but by golly they are a good income animal. Low maintenance, inexpensive to get started and damn those eggs are good.

Well -- that's all for today folks, gotta go tend to the grass

CONGRATS!!! Always nice to pay cash and not be indebted to the big banks!
