Hi soldier! Thank you for writing a post about depression, talking about it fights the stigma that exits around it and makes it easier foe people with depression to reach out for help.

I agree that overthinking is one of the most annoying traits and can lead to depression if one does not realize that these thoughts are not the reality. Although reading a book is a good escape from your thoughts for a while, they will often return when you stop reading and sometimes the thoughts can be so persuasive that reading does not even silence them for a while.

Guided meditation has helped me quite a bit and also just trying to examine my thoughts without making an opinion about them helps me realize that my thoughts are not reality.
