I used to do exactly this when I was much younger, and have since managed, "I think" to get out of thinking too much, for the most part.
It is a matter of changing focus, and living in the now, and training yourself to be present. that is what has helped me, also excising, and then reserve your deep thinking for that time, I run, and running gives me the time to let my mind wonder and explore everything I need to, when I am done I snap back into the "NOW"
