Photo Museum Time!
I wanted to share some historic Los Angeles photos with you, BUT you have to visit the website (below) to see them. The history of Muscle Beach is both cool and important to one of my industries, fitness.
There are 2 Muscle Beaches in Los Angeles:
- Santa Monica, started in the 1930's http://www.musclebeach.net/new/santa-monica/
- Los Angeles or Venice Beach, started in the 1950's
This website, clearly shows the difference between the two areas. http://www.musclebeach.net
Notice even the signs are different:
--Santa Monica's Muscle Beach has a white sign with blue letters. (scroll down here to see it) http://www.musclebeach.net/new/santa-monica/
--Venice's Muscle Beach has a large red painted like street art sign with huge black letters.
Santa Monica's Muscle Beach had "The Originals"....fitness superstars like Jack LaLanne, Steve Reeves and Mr. Joe Gold, the founder of the still huge Gold's Gym (and World Gym too).
Muscle Beach was such a thing, there was even a Muscle Beach Movie starring Frankie and Annette http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0058384/
This is posted in Santa Monica today:
I hope you take the time to look at all of those cool old black and white photos. There is a lot of fun history there.
You can now Google "Muscle Beach", know the difference and see how it looks today in both locations.
