Drug for the rich, cocaine, is no longer just for the rich. I don't know for whatever reason, but this substance that is usually seen only on films on the table of a millionaire drug lord begins to find the way into the general popultion.
Do people think they will show that they are rich and strong if they stuff in their nostrils something that the Colombian peasant gathered in the rainforests and cooked in improvised labs, the smuggler transferred in his rectum and the dealer most likely brought his underwear, I really don't know.
I only know that this drug getting all around us and that the path to cocaine addiction is quite easy. Why?
Let's begin.
When you do something you like, your brain rewards you. Different hormones that cause happiness, start secreting in certain centers of the brain. And you don't just feel happy. You feel self-confident, powerful, capable. And this happens in all sorts of situations.
Whether your crush looks at you or you eat or drink something tasty or you have sex, these hormones start secreting and they make you feel good.
This is where cocaine comes in.
When you eat something you like, the secretion of these hormones increases by 20 to 50%. Sex increases the secretion of these hormones by 100%.
Cocaine increases them by 250%.
This means that if you are bored and you have some laboratory mice and lots of cocaine just laying around, you can do an experiment. If you cause cocaine addiction in mice, they will choose cocaine rather than reproduction and food.
It's not much different with people.
Now, I've heard many stories where sex and cocaine is the best combination and that there is nothing like it.
Nonsense.
Cocaine gets you "high" in a variety of ways. Someone wants to fight, someone wants sex, someone wants a drink, etc. Subjective experience depends on many factors. The very effects of sex and cocaine as a combination are the same as in cocaine without sex. And the guy (or a gal) telling you about this is most likely an idiot or influenced by a placebo effect.
One more thing. Cocaine is a vasoconstrictor (contracts blood vessels). A very strong vasoconstrictor. And a local anesthetic as well (causing loss of nearly every tactile feeling). That means that if a guy is telling you that story, there is a huge likelihood that this sex he mentioned is most likely just a dream.
How does addiction develop?
Cocaine makes people feel awesome. They feel powerful, happy, strong.
Who wants to change that? And step-by-step, cocaine becomes a daily routine. Once the effects wear off, hormones of happiness are depleted and then the depression and worthlessness kick in.
Thus, a strong psychological addiction develops that can become physical as well.
Because of this, addiction should be seen as a disease just like any other. Certain synapses in the brain are disturbed and indeed there is a pathophysiological disorder. There is a treatment for these diseases.
I will not talk about the terrible and destructive (sometimes deadly) effects of cocaine on the heart, lungs, blood vessels and nose. You must have seen a lot of things in the brochures and educational shows.
All in all, there's no need to do this to yourself.
If you are addicted on certain substances, or someone in your family is an addict, look for help. Keep in mind that addiction is a DISEASE that it can and must be TREATED.
