Everyone coming to Izmir from the south may see huge sculpture of sitting man in national wear. This is the biggest (40 meters high) statue of Nasreddin, who is a famous hero of Turkish epos, including many humorous stories and anecdotes.
For instance, Nasreddin repeatedly and unsuccessfully tried to saddle his horse. And every time falling he repeated that his health is not good and that he is old already. However, looking around and finding that there are no spectators, he smiled and added, “Let's say you were not very agile even in your youth”.
In Turkish society there are different views concerning this monument, but for alien like me it looks like interesting enough. In any case it is unusual :D
