RE: Do Smartphones Make Us Dumb? Their Presence Reduces Our Brain Power - Even When They're Off!

in #life8 years ago

I feel like it doesn't really matter. Once I heard phones wonderfully described as 'an extension of our brain' - a second, detachable brain at the end of our arm.

Slower, but with the capacity to hold all the world's knowledge at our fingertips. It won't be long until we start modifying our bodies in a way that we will have direct, hands free access to this database (for better or worse).

Given the right education to utilize such a societal advance, we will barely need learned intelligence, right? I like to think of it as a transfer of intellectual form

Sort:

seriously, well how will you it's not even worth debating, there is nothing good about being stuck in a virtual world with no brain to go back to.

Well
1 - how do you know, unless you know we're already in one?
2 - I didn't say that, I simply said IF we are actually getting dumber, it doesn't really matter. Dumbness here is only a mode* score, not an average. Collectively, the human race is getting smarter, more peaceful, more thoughtful, more educated, more rational and more advanced in every way.

That's the important thing here
