Just like you, sometimes I sit and wonder what really makes those that are at the top in life where they are. I have tried to picture various kinds of short cuts that I could take to also belong to the top 10% in the world or my immediate environment but as we all know or should know, Success is deliberate and there are really no shortcuts. Many of them are who they are today based on the goals they had set for themselves.
Hi there and welcome to my blog post today. My name is Great Morgan and I am glad to have you on my blog. Just as I promised last week, I would be using my Mondays to drop at least one post about business, productivity or success in general. Last week, I introduced the concept of goal setting and explained what goals and goal setting really meant. Today, we would be taking a deeper look into goals and goal setting. I would be discussing how goals are the real creator of the world we live in today. At the end of this post, you’ll find reasons to take a pen out and begin to write your goals.
GOALS RULE THE WORLD
I know you must have heard the phrase “Ideas rule the world” but the truth is that ideas are not just what rule the world. Ideas are always in their intangible form and intangible objects hardly cause much change or effects. Ideas are just like data, they are unprocessed and still raw. They have no use unless they are applied.
Ideas alone do not have the power to rule the world. You also might have heard the phrase “Knowledge is power” but the deep truth behind this is that only “applied knowledge” is real power. No matter how much you know, nothing would change or work until you apply the things you know into a real life situation that can produce result.
Ideas are just like knowledge. Without any deliberate application of effort or action steps towards an idea, it will always remain an idea or just a thought. Goals are deliberately planned and also have action plans that are needed to attain a desired result.
THE TOP 3 PERCENT OF THE WORLD
According to Mark McCormack, there was once a Harvard study conducted on graduates of the MBA program at Harvard between 1979 and 1989. These graduates were asked how many of them had written goals for their future with action plans to accomplish them. At the end, only about 3% of these graduates had made such goals and plans. 13% of them had goals that were not put into writing while the remaining 84% had no sort of goals- they just wanted to finish school and get a job.
About ten years later in 1989, the researchers interviewed the members of that class one more time. It was discovered that the 13% who had goals that were not put into writing were earning almost twice as much as the 84% who had no goals. More surprisingly, the other 3% who had written down goals with action plans while leaving Harvard were earning, on average, ten times as much as the other 97% of graduates all together.
As you can see, the major difference between each group of the Harvard student was their level of clarity of their goals and life’s purpose. Clarity is one of the benefits of having and setting goals. The major difference between the top earners or achievers in life is most times just their level of clarity. Those that set goals know what they want and those that know what they want can get what they want.
THE KEY TO SUCCESS AND FULFILLMENT
I hope you don’t find this post boring because it seems quite long. Having and setting goals isn’t just cliché, it is the reality of high achievers. Although life doesn’t always end up giving us what we want every time, it is still advisable to set clear goals and work towards its achievement.
Setting goals and working towards them each day until fulfilment will bring about happiness, a sense of purpose and a sense of fulfilment. Goal setting is an instrumental key to success as mere thinking about goals can create an enthusiastic mindset that can aid the willingness to pursue and achieve the set goals.
The key to success is in what we do daily towards the achievement of our goals. A lot of people expect this form of overnight success but even setting very clear and strategic goals do not guarantee immediate success. Success is always a process that cannot be entirely rushed. Success takes time and consistency which is why a form of day to day effort towards the direction of our dreams would be the reason for its fulfillment. The only way to create the world you want is to set goals that are instrumental in its creation.
Nice work, almost have same idea with mine.
really? and what is your idea?
Ideas are knowledge and power. We should try to build our idea and knowledge daily.
Yes temmy. The idea is to keep growing everyday
