First Day of School

Well it's already more than a week since first day of school. Is your kiddo or someone you know still struggling with going to school?

These days, most first graders have no problem with first day to school since they are already exposed to life in class having been sent to nursery, preK and then kindergarten. Perhaps the differences children encounter are change in school, new classmates, bigger class and expectations of less fun and more learning.

Our kiddo had the chance to meet with his new classmates prior to first day. Some days ahead, the teachers planned a really cool mixer or icebreaker event at the pool. The kids who came got to know their class teacher and new classmates. I think it was a success.

Then couple of evenings before school starts, all children have to attend the back to school event. Each kid would find out where their classroom is and where they are supposed to sit. It helps reduce stress for children if parents ensure that necessary school supplies like binders, pencils, erasers, notebooks and folders are already purchased.

It's great that the school is making such efforts to ease kids into school life and most of all to enjoy school. I do hope that teachers not only teach and give moral guidance but also keep an eye on bullying in class or school. Some children do not report being bullied because they are scared and it is so important that teachers be alert and deal with this serious problem quickly when it happens.
