When forming the boundary of our Constitution, the found fathers reversed to one of the first books about democracy ever written, Plato’s Republic.
In the book, Socrates and his friends are discussing the property of various political systems, while recognize how they change over time.
The philosophers agreed that political systems can change so much that over time, they slowly develop into something else.Socrates stated that dictatorship can only be constituted to from a democracy.Socrates believed that as a majority rule develop, freedom spreads throughout the country.
More and more groups become free to express themselves and live a life entirely of their choosing. Migrator can enter to work and change state as freely as natural citizens.Men become standardized with women and natural differences between gender and race are yet forgotten.
As time goes on, children begin to take charge over their parents, and teachers fear their students. Eventually, any form of difference is detested, and the rich try to combining with the poor. The wealthy are then seen as raise of injustice, enemies of democracy’s main parts are; freedom and equality.
It is then that Plato believed a would-be dictator could take the moment. Likely, Plato argued, he would be one of the selected, yet he would openly mock and remark them.He would be won over by random pleasures, such as overweening sex and volatile greed. He would become a traitor to his class, opening condemning others like him while maximizing his similarities to the poor.
Plato believed this dictator would take charge of a particularly obedient crowd and sooner his elite enemies would either calm him or flee.He provides the people a relief from democracies’ endless options. He preaches that too much freedom simply becomes too much slavery.Eventually, the whole system is turned on its head and capable to the will of one person.
People view the dictator as a solution to all problems and finally democracy allows itself to die.
Is Trump a tyrant, to the degree that Socrates and Plato long ago predict rising from an evolving democracy?
Time will tell, but the sameness to Plato’s predictions are shocking and awful.
