Chief Friday Onyema is my dad.
The very first chief in my community and a reknown leader. He served his people right, resolving their boundary issues with neighbouring villages, overseeing peace keeping missions and ensured peaceful coexistence in my hometown.
"The more you talk, the more inferior you become. The more information they have about you, the more weak you become", my dad will always say.
Years ago, whike growing up, I wondered why nobody knew most things about my dad. Apart from the fact that he's a reknown chief who risked his life for our community, no one knew much about his activities and or plans.
One day I asked him why he love taking spontaneous decisions or risks. I asked to know why he bought a land over night without mentioning it earlier that he will be acquiring a landed property.
He said, every man, business or find has a competitor or atimes enemies who doesn't really want his progress. Thus, (he continued) it is always vital to sanction your tongue well enough to make plans or take decisions without using the village gong to spread the rumours even before your achievements.
My dad said, acquire it. Secretly take the risk, quitely make the move. You'll definitely be celebrated when you succeed. The more people you share your ideas, the more enemies you have. The more people you share your plans with, the weaker you become.

Your dad must be a good man to reckon with.
This is very true and wise. I have noticed that when you share your goals with others you become less enthusiastic about them as if you have wasted part of the energy you have for these goals, moreover secrecy spares us the naysayers and the negativity that they might through at us.
Thanks for sharing :)
