Well, sort of.
I started the idea a couple months ago when I stopped buying cryptocurrency. I had a trip across the country for my family of five and I told my wife I wouldn't spend any money until she gave me the OK. That and I wanted to be able to pay for my brother's wedding photos and his gas and food for his honey moon.
I didn't unfollow crypto people on Facebook but I did hide the Facebook groups from showing up on my main feed. I only checked prices once every few days except for the week I was on vacation because I kept myself pretty busy. I signed into my various wallets/accounts a few times over the month.
I didn't read any news or do any research on any coin other than my favorite few.
What did I learn from this time away?
First of all, I don't have an addiction to crypto! I know my family was just half assedly (<- new word) joking by saying I was addicted to crypto but hearing it over and over made me question whether or not I would be able to find something to do with my time. When you switch hobbies or mediums of entertainment, at least for me, the first little while seems kind of like you go hard into your new habit. The first week I watched a lot of Netflix and Hulu. Over the past 30 days I watched Mindhunter, The Walking Dead, Ghost Adventures, Black Sails, Sense 8, The 100, and Zoo. And that's not even counting any of the movies (Monster Squad is on Hulu.. hell yeah!). Last week bought and started playing the first new video game I've gotten for myself in 10 years.
There's nothing wrong with spending your time in front of a TV as long as you don't overdo it. Some people watch movies. Some people read. I choose sitting with my laptop.
I also realized that reading about crypto and checking Reddit and Steemit make me happy. I enjoy my crypto hobby. I felt so different when I was watching TV as my past time. Current events and crypto currency are just what I do. I don't browse Reddit like I used to. I don't spend much time on social media.
So now I'm back at it. For the few people that engage with me here on Steemit, thank you. It's always more enjoyable to do things we enjoy with other people.
By the way, nice face lift Steemit!
I think I should take a break sometimes from watching the tickers. Lots of noise with crypto but it's exciting. Not sure if it's an addiction but probably more healthy one than others......good post!
The tickers are not good for my health haha.
I tried day trading for about three days. I made some money but by eyes were glued to various screens for 3 or 4 hours continuously lol
good one
Welcome back. I'm currently multitasking watching the Walking Dead and on here haha.
Have you found much has changed in your time away? Apart from Bitcoin going crazy right now.
Nope. My alts are worth much less and Bitcoin has gone bonkers. I knew about the various forks before hand but with Bitcoin Cash, Bitcoin Gold, Bitcoin2x, and who knows what is next. It's like Bitcoin is doing the exact thing that they were trying to fight... creating wealth out of nowhere. How are the big guys in Bitcoin any different from the big guys in banking?
It just encourages my belief in Dash and Monero even more!
Sadly I have to agree on that one. Greed seems to be winning again. I think in about 5 years there will be at least 10-15 Bitcoin versions out there which won't help with the image from outside the current Bitcoin community.
