Our Life Story | Chapter 33 – The Big Easy, New Orleans!

in #life8 years ago

An easy city it is, everybody feels really relaxed. You´ll immediately notice it if you’re walking in the streets of New Orleans. We had the feeling that nobody judges one or another. A city where everybody can be themselves, it doesn´t matter what you look like, what music or what religion you like. You can just be yourself in New Orleans, at least that is the vibe we got from having the pleasure of staying there for 2 nights.

Just a day before arriving we booked a small hotel room in the French quarter named Olde Town inn.  The beauty of this hotel for us was that it was a pretty cheap, very nice located and clean.

The most important thing for us was the location, just a 5 min walk from Frenchmen. If you ever been to New Orleans you definitely know what we are talking about. A lot of travel website´s, agencies and people in general talk about Bourbon street,

Forget about Bourbon street…!

Take our word for it, unless you like a street filled with many too drunk to handle tourists. For all our European friends you can compare it to: Lloret de mar in Spain, Chersonisoss in Greece of sunny beach. A lot of well known places for the younger Europeans looking for a place to go insane for the first vacation without their parents.

That’s the vibe we got from Bourbon street, and I can tell you we’ve grown over this type of Holliday’s. Nothing terrible but just not the thing we like anymore. We we’re looking for a place where the real inhabitants of New Orleans come to enjoy their nights, and let me tell you, we found it!

A beautiful street called Frenchmen. This street really is the place where the trumpets and live music blow’s out of the entrance doors. It has been a while since we heard so much awesome live bands in just one street.

Frenchmen is most certainly not the only great street in New Orleans. Our walk from the hotel to the Frenchmen and the busier center takes us through a lot of more nice architecture, of which a lot originates from the Spanish and French settlements from a couple of hundred years ago. Really old buildings make it a true pleasure to wander through this city.

After our first night out drinking we decided to go for a nice lunch on the French market. A some sort of indoor market place where you can buy local art, enjoy some live music or enjoy great food. This is exactly what we did. We woke up (late in the morning) feeling quite hungry and in the mood for doing some touristy things. No better place to start the day than the French market.

With our feet ready to take a break from all the walking we went back to the hotel to get a much needed shower and change of clothes. Only to walk back to Frenchmen and get some more beers and great food. Our second night was just as great as the first one and recharged our batteries to get us ready for the next chapter in our life story…

Beautiful place!!!Upvoted and followed:)

Looks like a fun trip, I'm from around the area. Good job avoiding Bourbon, but I sure hope you got out of the quarter some! Mid-city and Uptown are some of my favorite areas.

Unfortunatly we didn't, but since its such a great city, i'm guessing we will be coming back:) for now we didn't had that much time too spend.

For at least 2 more weeks and then another chapter in our lives will start 😊

Thanks for sharing your trip photos and experiences! And thank you for being honest about Bourbon Street. Sometimes well known locations are way overrated, and it's more fun to find your own enjoyable places.

Glad you like it! We love exploring things our own way and believe honesty is quite important! 😉
