Life is associated with blood. As long as there is blood, there is life. When blood is drained from the body, life automatically is snuffed out.
Blood is so essential and respected that it was a way to cover short comings/sins. The connection of blood to life is so strong that the law forbade its consumption (Genesis 9: 4, Leviticus 17: 12, Deuteronomy 12: 23) because the blood is the life. As a practice, life was used to preserve life.
Exodus 12:1-13 gives us an account of the blood of animals were to bring about redemption. In the passage the Lord said... “When I see the Blood, I will pass over you” (verse 13)! The Lord was going to bring judgment over the land. He had proposed to smite the firstborn in all the land of Egypt because of their gods. If the children of Israel did not apply the blood, they would have lost their firstborns as the Egyptians and if the Egyptians had applied the blood, they would have been saved like the Israelites.
The preservation was NOT based on righteousness of man, but the sinless nature of the lamb. The life of the lamb was NOT enough by itself, the lamb’s BLOOD carried the protective/redemptive power.
The lamb had to be a young male lamb without any disease or abnormalities. Though the blood from the lamb (the Exodus experience) prevented death and overlooked sin, it was inadequate and created a longing for Grace – the perfect sacrifice.
Hope you will stay tuned...there is more...
Goodmorning and enjoy a Blessedday
I am
It is a very good point to understand the importance of blood. Just like you said, the significance of blood was to cover our sins so that we could be washed in righteousness through the precious blood of Jesus!
This is where we get the term "scapegoat" from as our common lingo. The priest laid hands on the goat without blemish and laid the other hand on the person who needed to be cleansed. A transfer of purity from the animal would transfer with the sin of the person and so then the goat was slain to complete the sacrifice.
Shedding blood was a yearly process during the day of Atonement but now we rest in the everflowing blood of Jesus which gives us access to righteousness when we have a heart of repentance!
Thank you very much. This is really a great insight. Thank you for sharing this with us
Thanks! Glory be to God for granting us insight to His word!
Goodmorning my fellow 9ja bro. Hope your night went well..sure.you are right. Just as you have backed up your point from the Bible. Thats why its proper when we kill animals for eat,we bury their blood with earth [sand] because why, there is life in it than just mere dead animal about to be eaten but still peole go ahead and steam up the blood for purposes I don't know which is wrong. So thanks for the word of God you have shared with steemains even if i know not everyone believes, but we Nigerians know our source of life and that we respect. Have a pleasant day @outhori5ed
Thank you very much. It was always common practice to cover the blood of the animals killed with sand, but i dont know if it is still done.
I love how the patterns in the Bible repeat. You have the ram that was the replacement sacrifice for Isaac they the Passover lamb for Moses and Israelites and then finally Jesus as our Passover Lamb for all time. Great stuff
Nice post
Thank you very much
