10k would have just paid 5 years of property taxes on my 1/4 acre in the city. I figured this was a better use of it.

Absolutely. I pay nearly $2k a year on my home plus water/sewer, maybe time I do some research on cheap acreage and go off grid.
We thought it was a good idea.
