TV - REALITY SHOWS : How can we perceive it ?

in #life7 years ago (edited)

I know it’s not common to talk about Reality tv show on Steemit, but I really wanted to write an article about it to understand how you perceive it and what you think about it.

You might know « The Kardashians », « the bachelor » or even « Jersey Shore ».
In Europe, we do have a lot of TV-Reality shows, if I focus on Belgium and France I would say we have at least 15 different reality shows. They can be based on love (who want to marry my son), cooking (a diner almost perfect), adventure (Koh-Lanta), mystery and psychology.

I tried to have different points of view on this subject. First of all, Reality-shows started in the 21th century. In 2004 more precisely for France and Belgium. It had a huge success ! The name of the first show was « Love Story » and then we had « Secret story », after « 10 perfect couples » or « The villa of broken heart ».

Why does it have such a big success ? Because it was a way to « spy » on people’s life, to escape our reality and to « relax ». I will call it « Non-focus Brain ». Our brain do not need to think when we look at these shows, it’s advertising, funny, and sometimes really silly.

But can we say it has a bad impact on teenagers today ?

I heard a lot of « It’s funny, it helps me to relax and to think about something else than exams, work etc. » from students. But on the other hand, maybe the teenagers of today do not watch other more serious program than these. Today, it’s easy to be influenceable, , if teenagers would start acting like their favourite TV-reality star I do not think it will have good consequences on their lives.

« Researchers from the University of Wisconsin found shows that has to be "real" actually negatively impact the way TV viewers think of the world. For example, they found that people who watch shows like "Keeping Up with the Kardashians" were more likely to report thinking that the cattiness and backstabbing that takes place between the sisters is par for the course. »

Today, teenagers think by participating in Reality shows they will become famous and rich, but this world is not that glamorous and shiny as we think it is…Some journalists reported prostitution in this world, escorting, drugs…and being constantly watched on social media by thousand and thousand of followers can have a bad psychological pressure.

People will always judge who you are. And some teenagers don’t have the strength to support the critics, the pressure from this world.

Tell me what you think about it !
Have a great day !

Thank you for sharing this. Looking forward to seeing more of your posts :)

Hey@paulinewery! First of all I love your profile message, 'wanting to live the life I want'! FANTASTIC!! I can resonate, it's interesting how these reality shows is attracting the young, I think it's very much like Facebook, where employers can check on people's personalities and characteristics, a bit like screening.

Thank you for upvoting on my recent post, I'm following. Peace.
