Glial Cells
Glial cells is a term used in neuroscience when referring to a specific class of brain cells that are often not given the credit they deserve when studying the functioning of the brain. Much of the focus goes into neurons and how they contribute to all of our seemingly simple, yet highly complex, underlying processes that make us human. Yes, neurons do contribute to all of our thoughts, sensations, feelings etc., however, what is an actor without their crew?
What do Glial Cells do?
Every actor requires a crew, every CEO needs employees, just like every neuron requires a Glial Cell. This is by no means a 1:1 ratio. One neuron can be managed by many Glial Cells. Glial Cells provide structural support, waste removal, nutrient supplementation, water, protection against harmful stuff to neurons, among many other fancy shmancy science word functions. Glial Cells basically keep the show running while the spotlight is on the beautifully maintained neurons. Awww poor Glial Cells never get the attention they deserve. Welcome to show biz people! Or better yet brain biz. Haha lolol rofl. Anywayssss Glial Cells are super cool and everyone should appreciate them more!
