RE: What About People Whose Mental Illness Makes Them Violent?

in #life8 years ago (edited)

I hate when people say anti-pshychotics make mentally ill people violent it shows a serious lack of understanding of how they work and what can impair their effectiveness. over the counter medications, antibiotics, getting a cold (or any illness for that matter), an unusually heavy period, alcohol I could go on all day. (by the way 99.9 percent of schizophrenics or more of a danger to themselves than those around them when they are in the middle of a psychotic break, )
What does lead to more violence is a terrible mental healthcare system that costs so much people can't afford to access the levels of care they need.
Here in the uk the family member I care for has a mental health support team, weekly or monthly blood checks (this varies according to circumstances), support centres, psychiatrists, psychiatric nurses, counsellors and it's still a sturggle to keep her blanaced could someone unable to work in the US access even a fraction of that support?
