Yesterday, I had this surreal experience that's been coming back to my thoughts until today. Maybe I just couldn't believe that it really happened that it's been clinging to my mind and I'm getting anxious about it. These are the events in life that makes me think more about my health and wellness. I believe everybody should think more about their health as we age because it's no longer the same as when we are younger. And we should start as early as now.
If you are wondering what I witness yesterday that made me think about my wellness, a lady about the same age as mine just fainted while riding the escalator. She simply dropped backwards hitting her head on the edge to one of the treads of the escalator. The impact was strong that I heard it eventhough I was more than 10 meters away.
Instinctively, I turned my sight towards her as soon as I heard the loud "bang" when she fainted. It took me a few seconds to realize what happened because I just couldn't process the event. Maybe I was too shocked that something like that could happen. It was my first time witnessing that kind of event.
And as I was processing the event in my mind, I saw a young girl immediately dash to the emergency button of the escalator to stop it. I'm really impressive with the reaction time of the young girl as she realized that something bad happened to the unconscious lady as the escalator is towing her up.
While all of these are happening, I'm still standing where I am and observing, not moving and not doing anything.
One of the staff also went to the escalator to assist while two other guys also went to where unconscious lady is to help as well.
And in that moment my train arrived and then instinctively ride it. As I realized that there is nothing that I can do about it.
Even after boarding the train, my mind kept replaying the scene, making me question how fragile our bodies can be and how quickly things can change. It was a stark reminder that taking care of our health isn’t just about avoiding illness—it’s about being prepared for the unexpected.
Unsettling 😬
