Embossed babies: the magic of a special birth

in #life7 years ago (edited)

It is said that these births have some magic and that the children will be lucky in the future. However, beyond popular belief, embossed babies relate to a very particular type of birth where children come into the world with the amniotic bag intact,an exceptional fact that always catches our attention.

They also call it veiled birth or even be born with "Venetian veil". According to experts, this type of birth is extremely rare, 1 out of a 80,000 births . this fact is alone already makes you curious, I am sure you are too!!

Babies in this age of cameras and social networks are always news. Hence, majority of us have seen more than one video of these births where we are fascinated above all, that energy that the baby shows us from his bag. As if he did not feel like going through that veil, wishing he could stay a little longer in that world of peace and balance.

I want to talk about this type of births, why they occur and what curiosities are associated with veiled births.

The embossed babies and the amniotic bag
One of the main warnings our body gives us when we are about to give birth is "break water". When the contractions begin with more force and regularity, it is normal for the membrane that forms the amniotic sac to break.

It is a painless fact, however, it is not something that all mothers experience. There are women who will break water during their own birth and not before, and others, they will see with their own eyes how their children come to the world.

Experts in gynecology and obstetrics tell us that the act of coming into the world with the amniotic bag intact does not imply a greater or lesser benefit. It is nothing more than something curious, beautiful and striking where yes, it is delayed a little bit more that step in which the child must begin to breathe by itself away from the amniotic fluid .

Curiosities of the amniotic bag

The amniotic sac grows as the feotus itself grows . It is a seemingly fragile membrane, however, it is much more resistant than we think. It is formed by two layers and in turn, lacks muscles, nerves, or vessels and blood. What gives it resistance is collagen and elastin.

  • The two layers that form it are the amnion and the chorion, the latter being the outer and the thickest.

  • As far as the amniotic fluid is concerned, it is known that it begins to form after the first two weeks after conception . After about 10 weeks more you have a great wealth of proteins, carbohydrates, lipids and phospholipids, urea and electrolytes, which help the development of the fetus.

  • The liquid helps in turn to cushion the baby from possible bumps and injuries. In addition, it provides adequate mechanisms to breathe and swallow, providing in turn a stable temperature.

  • However, in recent weeks the amniotic fluid is formed by various fetal blood cells, hair of the lanugo and vernix, and a type of fat that covers and protects the baby's skin . As well, and in these last days before the childbirth, this liquid is composed almost in its totality by the urine that the baby produces when emptying his bladder.

What is the breakage of the amniotic bag for the baby

  • The rupture of the amniotic bag does not stop being stressful for the baby . We can not forget that during pregnancy the fetus has its lungs full of water. Your breathing is done by an exchange of gases through the placenta.

  • Now, during delivery, and once the amniotic sac is broken, all the fluid in your lungs is reabsorbed or expelled through the mouth so that the newborn can perform the first breath. It is something complex for the baby.

  • However , during a vaginal delivery when passing through the birth canal, the child's chest is pressed, and this helps to eliminate lung fluid, mucus and amniotic fluid .

Something that during a cesarean section does not usually happen.

Embossed babies, on the other hand, enjoy a moment of tranquility when they arrive to the world with the bag intact. The reasons why this happens are not known today, nor why 1 in 80,000 amniotic bags do not break. Although this has always been the motive of superstitions and traditions that I will explain to you.

Born with veil, traditional beliefs associated
Pregnant babies, as we have pointed out before, do not have greater or lesser advantages than other children born in an ordinary way.

Doctors tell us that this type of birth neither benefits nor harms. Now, since it has been thought that these little ones arrived "more protected" than the rest , and that therefore, they could develop some abilities out of the normal.

Tradition says that enameled babies become "greeters". That is, in people who can heal. However, this ability would be lost if the parents or the child himself reveal to others that his birth was "veiled".

It is also said that these little ones have several "graces", that their lives will be fortunate and that it will be in their nature to do good.

As we see, they are beliefs endowed with a certain magic and beauty that give even more mystery to these babies that show us once again, how beautiful a birth can be.

Wow!! I have not heard about embossed babies before. That was a very interesting lecture. Good job dear.

So interesting and unique, ride on

I enjoyed reading this. In the Yoruba culture, these children are called Oke. I know a certain one but I haven't really seen anything that differentiates her from the rest of us. She is sweet though.

"Oke" exactly I was trying to recall that, yeah there is really no difference, Africans we just get a little too superstitious.

It is as though giving birth is equivalent to laying a large egg. Very strange.

This is so amazing, I really think this is stunning how some babies can be born this way!!
