If you aren’t already obsessed with developing your own plant menagerie, let me give you a few reasons why you should keep these lovely, living things in your home.
They are Beautiful
Aesthetically, my favorite type of decor in a house is the living beauties of plants. If you’re looking for an inexpensive way to bring life into your home, you can’t go wrong with a plant. The pop of vibrant green, the variety and delicacy in the leaves, there’s no doubt about it; houseplants are a simple way to make your space more beautiful.
Many Houseplants Purify the Air in Your Home
I wrote an article a few months ago that details the many ways various houseplants clean the air in their surroundings. Not only do they distribute oxygen into the air while absorbing carbon dioxide, they also remove common toxins from your home. NASA conducted in an depth study proving that houseplants remove the toxins that develop in the air from things like plastic, furniture, cleaning supplies, glue and paint.
The Color Green Promotes Calmness
Green is the color most often associated with nature, and by bringing some of the natural world inside, you can benefit from the peace and calm associated with the great outdoors. For a dwelling that promotes peace and soothes you the moment you walk in the door, fill your home with houseplants and bring what we love about nature inside.
Plants Can Improve Concentration and Performance
There have been several studies that show the color green contributes positively toward performance, both mental and physical. So if you work or work out from home, it would be prudent to put some plants in your space for optimum performance.
Develop Accountability and Responsibility
My mother loved philodendrons, and growing up our house was full of them. I inherently adored the broad, bright green leaves from an early age and still do. I observed with wonder their ease of propagation; you can easily take a leaf from a philodendron and place it in a small vessel of water and that leaf will grow roots. This is how I got my first houseplant. Once the roots had developed, I planted that leaf and it grew into a many-vined wonder. I was 11 years old and named my plant “Alfred”. Learning to care for Alfred by regularly watering him and repotting him as necessary instilled a sense of accountability within me. I was entirely responsible for this organism's survival and it was my duty to ensure that it thrived.
Energetically speaking, plants play an important role in houses, they balance the energies of the environment, and it is true that by touching them they transmit their energy to us and we to them. In fact, if you do the experiment and talk to one bush every day and another you never talk to but both receive the same light and water, there will be a noticeable difference in time between the bush you talk to and the one you don't, they are part of our energetic environment.

one of my dreams is also to have a garden of my own..i want it inside my house so i can gaze at my plants and feel relaxed. i agree with one of the comments here that plants do have their own energy.. just staring at them really gives a soothing effect. sad that our current place has limited space.
I couldn't agree more. Plants have such a soothing effect on humans! Have you heard about the Forest Therapy in Japan? It was found out that negative feelings such as "tension-anxiety", "depression-dejection", "anger-hostility", "fatigue", and "confusion" significantly decreased.
only recently.. i checked out some youtube videos, too. seems the principle behind it is like grounding. you release your negative vibes to any natural or earthly element.
do you have enough at least to do container gardening? i've seen some shots in pinterest. might give you some wonderful ideas.
Great article! Need more of these.

Plants Can Improve Concentration and Performance-- This is why I bought plants inside my workstation. My friend told me after 2 hrs of working, I should stop for a while and just stare at the plants and it will calm my eyes and mind. And I agree... It was very therapeutic. My new fave now is the succulents. They are just so pretty.
Hey, I also do that... I worked for how many hours looking at my monitor and one way to calm my eyes is to just go out and look at my garden. It soothes my tired eyes and it calms my mind. Therapeutic indeed!!
It's very fulfilling to care for living things.
All great reasons. I have been looking for nice plants for a while but can't afford many, it's amazing how much they cost these days. I grab cuttings where I can but I am not a having much success with that at the moment. It's my birthday coming up so have ask for that, finger crossed hey. 💯🐒
Having plants in a home is great, my parents house is full of them and it's pleasing to see. One thing I ran into with the plants I had in my home was that I kept getting bugs. I don't really mind the bugs but my spouse hates them. We've tried using essential oils in a spray bottle to kill them but they don't seem to die. Any tips? I know bugs are sometimes important but are there plants that don't really have these associated with them?
What kind of bugs?
