Hi you!
Having trouble falling asleep in the evening? Rolling around in the bed, frustrated that you simply can't sleep? Your mind going crazy with all sort of ideas? Hope this post will make this go away and you can get the most out of your sleep!
Please note that all these recommendations and tips I share here are things that I personally found helpful for me. If they work or not for you, that's up to you to try!
I think most of us have had days where falling asleep feels impossible, have you tried to research on your own how to solve this? If not I'll bring up a couple of "life-hacks" to make it easy for you to catch.
1. Plan your morning routine in advance
Pick out clothes you will wear the next day, pack your bags, make your lunchbox. This will reduce your stress levels you might have because "you have so much to do, need to get up extra early to make everything ready". Trust me on this, it might not seem like much, but your body will thank you for that extra sleep. And it will also create a more relaxed mindset for you that you know you're ready for tomorrow!
2. Don't have the heat on max
It's cold outside, and you decided to turn up the temperature to max in your room? Bad idea, it will make you uncomfortable in the long run. And the air will become bad during the night, never sleep in a room that's too hot! Put on an extra blanket instead!
3. No electronic devices in the bed!
Yes, I'm serious. No more Instagram, Facebook or checking your inbox right before bed time. This will be hard for most people, because most people want to check their profiles one last time just in case they missed something. This is the main point most people forget about. The mobile device will make your brain activity go in to full gear again, and will mess up your sleep. I'm not joking on this!
If you don't have an alarm clock at the nightstand, and use your phone for that, set the alarm before you enter the bed and put the phone away! The cat pictures and funny videos can wait until the next day.
4. Read a regular book
No e-books! Buy a regular book, go old school! Pick something you like, can be anything! (Try to avoid cartoons, picture books, etc.) Take at least 15-30 minutes for this, you will feel different after this! It's a truly remarkable effect on you, it will make you feel tired and sleepy. You will fall asleep in no time!
Reading a book?! That's boring... Then I'll say: "Well if you think it's boring, doesn't that make you tired?" Nice simple trick you can play on your mind!
5. You still feel like your mind going crazy, will all sort of thoughts?
Place a pen and paper next to your bed, and every time you feel like it's something you need to remember, or write down the idea you had of the next mainstream app that will make you the big bucks. Write down what's on your mind and let it go, you will not forget it! Now you can relax and fall asleep.
6. No water 1 hour before sleep
What does this have to do with my sleep, or "falling" asleep? It might not be directly affected to the first time you fall asleep, but will reduce the times you need to wake up from the deep sleep during the night. No more 3 am, 5 am, toilet trips! You will feel much better in the morning, don't make your body repeat the "sleeping cycle from scratch". Well won't my body be dehydrated then? Yes, that's why the first thing you do when you wake up is to drink one-two glasses of water when you wake up, to kick start the day. (Your body don't like the fact that you wake up and then need to fall asleep again over and over during one night).
7. Time for you to experiment on your own
I think I've brought up a couple of good things that you can keep in mind before you head to bed! If it's anything from this post you should implement it would be to not use the mobile devices! I think that's the most important part, and reading a book instead makes it even better!
Hope you enjoyed the read! And please keep me updated if you tried something on the list and how it went! Let me know if there is something you would want me to write about, always open for suggestions!
