in #life7 years ago

When playing video games, we encounter 'salty' individuals... It made me think, what are some cool uses of salt? Salt is a commonly found product amongst households. It is used mainly to flavor foods. However, there are many other uses to this wonder. Below is a list of ways you can use this product!

1. Maintaining Colors On Your Clothing
Overtime, the color of clothing begins to fade. However, adding some salt can help to set the color. Simply flip your clothing inside out and leave it to soak in water with a tablespoon of salt for an hour. Wash it after with normal laundry detergent. If you add a bit of white vinegar, it helps the clothing to maintain its fibers better.

2. Itch Relief for Bug Bites and Poison Ivy
If you don’t have topical Benadryl handy, salt may help! Fill a bowl with hot water and add a teaspoon of salt. Wait for it to dissolve and cool. Once it has, start putting it on your skin and allow it to dry. The best type of salt for this method is Epsom salt because it contains magnesium sulfate.

3. Scare Ants Away!
That ant spray you got at home not working? Create a salt-line around the area where the ants are present. This should help to stop them from coming into your home. Salt dries the exoskeleton of ants which causes them to die.

4. De-Icing
Commonly done in Europe and other parts of the world, if your car is iced, salt is a method you can use. Apply the salt on top of the ice and watch it melt.
5. Deordorizer

Do those smelly pair of shoes that you really want to wear? Sprinkle some salt inside the shoes every day so it can soak up those smells. It works for smelly trash cans too!

6. Ease a sore throat
I use this method for any flus, colds, or sore throats! Salt helps to loosening mucous and reduce swelling.

7. Make Boiled Egg Peeling a Piece of Cake
Know the trick to peeling boiled eggs? Add a teaspoon of salt in your pot of water and let it dilute. Place your eggs in and let it boil. You will never struggle egg peeling again!
