What an interesting experience. I have had a few similar experiences in my life and as much as I would like to I cant explain them either! some were scary and some not at all! I do believe however that if we believe it possible we can be in touch with those that have passed on, and they dont always reveal themselves to us in the same way we remember them, but in a younger or older version of themselves as they see themselves. Maybe the colour and the knitting is something this person loved? or maybe its something you envisioned for them! I certainly don't have the answers you are searching, but if you meditate on it for a while, the answers you seek will come to you.
