We live in a crazy world and at a time where almost anything could happen. War could break out, natural disasters could flood a city... who knows? We just have to be as ready as we can be.
Most people don't have the time to sit and learn everything they will need to know for any kind of situation. Most of us are still living our lives, but we need to be prepared. We have to be responsible for understanding how to protect ourselves in the case of an emergency or disaster.
One of the best ways I have found to make sure I have the right information when I need will need it, is to collect free or cheap books that will have valuable solutions in a disaster.
I picked up the other day at a thrift store book sale. Fill a bag for $1.
For a $1 I got books on natural healing, woodworking, some "Worst Case Scenario Handbooks" and a great first responder book.
These books could be very valuable in certain scenarios.
It is important to look through the books so you know what kind of information you have. It is also important to be able to know where to find the right info in a disaster. Think of things you don't know that you might need to know. I try to pick up language books when I can, maps, how to build books, star guides, trail guides and things like that.
Now some people don't have the space to store a ton of books, and I get that. But what you can do is buy the books you need and go through and cut out certain pages and make a scrap book of worthy knowledge. Real important stuff you could laminate.
In the First Responder book there is a great diagram of how to do CPR and that might be a good thing to pull out and laminate. Maybe pull a diagram in a book that shows the different clouds and what they mean. That would be a great thing to keep. Especially if you have to move on foot.
The goal is to have the information available when you need it, and learn as much of it as you can along the way. Being prepared for trouble isn't a fool proof plan. Things will go wrong, but at the end of the day, the most knowledgable and best trained will have the best chances to survive a deadly situation.
Do you look for books that might be good for prepping when you go to thrift stores? Tell me in the comments.
Thank you for your time.
I love going to thrift stores to buy books. Good tips. Welcome back
