If it's wrong for an individual to do something, is it moral for a government to do it?

When Jane, using the threat of violence, demands a portion of Rick's income, Jane is called an extortionist and a thief.
When a group of men acting in association, calling themselves government, does the same thing Jane just did, it is not only considered moral. It is glorified.
When John goes out and kills 30 people, he is called a serial killer, and is considered the scum of the earth.
When government does the same thing and calls it war, they aren't lambasted. They are praised, thanked, and paid tribute to.

What is immoral for an individual to do is equally immoral for a group of individuals, regardless of the size of the group, and despite what they call themselves.

@r4fken Excellent article. I fully agree with your assessment about voluntarism and the focus on self-defense. Take the NAP for instance, I have seen some try to argue that if you follow the NAP it means you are a pacifist but they forget that you can rebuttal any argument, including physical ones.

I wrote a detailed article on why taxation is theft if you care to read. Thanks!

very well written and very enlightful! I personally believe in sales tax but all other form of taxes are robbery. ( i realize this is debatable )

A think an enlighten person will come to realize that there is great incentive for everyone to have a good life around them, especially if they are your neighbors since this would lower any incentive for them to steal, harm, etc.. just my 2 cents! Great post... Cheers

look forward to future post :)

I have a question. For the sake of argument let us say you have created this society of yours, and it hasn't resulted in any of the many hundreds of disasters I think it would face from day one. After six months a famine begins, where between one fifth and one third of the population face starvation because they do not have money to buy food. There are too many assholes in your new society who do not volunteer to feed the poor, and so many many people die. Is this justice in your society? Or is this the cost of volunteerism. If it is not justice, then how exactly would those deaths have been prevented?
