Maybe is not the nicest topic even at Mother's Day time, but is quiet pertinent for the moment we are living and our future as a society. Do you prefer a pet over a kid?
Are education and knowledge destroying mankind's survival instinct? The question is valid seeing the hesitation in many places regarding animal's protection and rights, but seen not the same hesitation for people's rights. When an increasingly selfish sentiment prevails in most people, giving priority to other things like professional realization, traveling, networking, etc., before breeding and caring for their own kind.
It is something I am not judging as morally right or wrong, as from a religious perspective is increasingly becoming, because I think that people has the right to make its own decisions. I am more concerned regarding the future of humanity and the steps we are taking to preserve it or not.
From this perspective is hard to understand people's preference for pets, material amenities, professional success or even cellphones, over its survival and future as a community. The most developed societies in which material and professional needs are mostly fulfilled by its people are becoming elder, with increasingly reduced birth rates, but almost in the same proportion an increase in their pet's industry, showing somehow that people need companionship but they prefer it from animals than people. Is this a sign of loss of humanity? It is an expression of selfish interest of the people in these societies, and a lack of interest in their descendant's future?
On the other hand, the less educated and poor societies are more concerned with their survival, because of material and professional deficiencies, that situation is fueling their survival instincts and making them breeding many more children than their societies can raise, increasing the deficiencies mentioned before.
At the end this situation is leading to mankind's disequilibrium, with wealth concentrated in smaller groups, and poverty spreading to bigger groups. But also with an increase in the proportion of poorly-educated people to well-educated people to sustain the future needs and growing of humanity. This also is leading to increased unrest between the different societies. Is humans future under this circumstance closer to Mad Max than Star Trek? Maybe, but all will depends on the attitude and decisions made especially from the wealthy societies for the future. It is wrong to think that wealth societies will be able to prosper just leaving outside their boundaries the poor people or just letting in the right amount to keep their living standard.
This is a small thought on our future as in the Boss Baby movie.
Regards to all.
Topic line made me laugh. I have 3 kids, 2 of which are crying right now about some silly toy. I do know one thing. I like Trees.
We can't live without them.
