After loosing my job in October last year, my family now finds itself facing being kicked out of our home. Rightly so, we have not been able to pay rent for thr last two month, its not the owners fault, he has been very supportive up until now.
Living in Cape Town, one of South Africa's biggest and weathiest cities i find it amazing that finding a job can be so hard. Yes as a while male South African makes it even harder because of the BEE laws, but blame cannot be put on the companies. They are only abiding by the laws of the land.
But then again maybe it's my fault. Maybe i'm too old, maybe i'm too fat, maybe too lazy, dont articulate myself properly i don't know.
What i do know finding help is extremely hard. There are hundreds of charities helping the destitute and rightly so, but there is no one helping people from becoming destitute.
Halfway houses and places of safety only cater for women and children being togeather and not a whole family unit. So my wife and son would be able to be togeather but i would have to stay at a different location very far from them. I don't know if i can do that.
I honestly don't know what to do or where to go. One thing i do know is that come the end of this month we must be out of our house if we are not able to pay the rent, which we can't.
The very sad thing is that in these bad economic times i am not the only one in this situation. Hundreds if not thousands of the so called middle class are becoming destitute, with little or no support from charites or government.
