WHAT IS MALARIA
Malaria is a disease transmitted by mosquitoes in which a protozoan, plasmodium, multiplies in blood every few day.
Malaria, a disease transmitted by the female anopheles mosquito is one of the oldest and deadliest diseases known to ravage mankind.
SYMPTOMS
The symptoms of malaria are classified into two
I) uncomplicated
II) severe malaria
I) uncomplicated malaria:-
This is a case were symptoms are present,but there are no signs to indicate severe infection of vital organs in the body. Symptoms include
✴Cold with shivering
✴Headaches, fever and vomiting
✴Seizures
✴sweats, high temperature and accompanied with tiredness
II) severe malaria:-
Test run in the laboratory shows signs of dysfunction vital organs in the body. Symptoms include
✴Cold and fever
✴Impaired consciousness
✴Respiratory distress and deep breathing
✴Abnormal bleeding and signs of anemia
It remains one of the top killers of children under five. Hence, the need to end malaria for good.
In my role as a public
I have properly counselled patients undergoing treatment for malaria on the need to take their medication as prescribed to avoid recrudescence.
Engaged in public health enlightenment/awareness campaign on the mode of transmission and prevention of malaria.
Volunteered in the distribution of mosquito repellents and ITN's.
