Battery anxiety!

in #life8 years ago

Walking in a new city like any normal tourist, enjoying the views and the air when something awful happened: I ran out of battery.
It wasn't unexpected, the low battery omen has made itself known for some time now: 10%...5%...1%. It was a matter of time, minutes really. I started to get nervous at 10%, and downright maniacal at 5%. The situation was quickly becoming critical!!
And then it was all over, the phone dead. I had to do something....

I turned from a tourist to a battery beggar. That's a term I use for those people desperate for some battery. They run like scared gnus all over a city, looking for a place to plug their charger in (if they are lucky enough to have one!!) or maybe BEG fr some to loan them a wire. To give them a bit of life.
I say "them" but from my shameful look you must read it "me" :)
"Hello, do you maybe have an iphone charger?!"
"Uhm...can I plug my usb charger in your laptop?!"
Weird looks. Pitiful looks. Heads were shaken. Half-smiles were smiled. Nothing achieved...

Which got me thinking, why did my whole trip turned around this slight inconvenience?! Is it really normal to have my state of enjoyment affected by Lithium Ions?! It makes some sense though:
The truth is that I and maybe us are slaves to our phone and slaves to the technology. What can I do without my phone?
I can't order an uber...
I can;t check my Blockfolio!!
I can't even the door of my AirBnB because they send a smart key on the smartphone.
I can't find anything without GoogleMaps or drive anywhere without Waze!

We are totally, forever and immutably connected to our phones, the internet, the apps. I noticed that there is a low-level anxiety every time I am far away from my phone...I feel it in my bones, I feel it in my stomach. Something is missing!
What exactly, I'm not sure...
Behind that " Airplane mode " anything can happen without MY knowledge. The crypto world might boom or fall, the world is spinning and my friends are sending very important cats photos!. I am disconnected and away. I don't last long...

Important information that I learned today: The best way to take care of your phone batter is to keep it as much as you can at 40-80% charge. Never let it get to 100%, never let it deplete and it will last a lot longer. Who knew?
My favorite cycle is from 100% to 0%. I have no right to feel betrayed by my battery!!

It's a bit worrisome as tech becomes more and more prevalent in our day to day life. And especially true for us here, which are...to some degree, at the forefront of technology, pushing the limits with the blockchain: eternally, increasingly important lovable blockchain!

Did you notice that Blockchain is hungry?. Oh yes, it;s a tech that awaits it moment. Sure, we've seen crazy booms lately and seems that things are happening but I feel that we haven't seen ANYTHING.
Blockchain will eat...marketplaces, the economy*, the world!! and even its creators.

And as we go forward, as the blockchain will nom nom nom more and more and more of our lives we should maybe make sure not to get eaten in the process!

As for me, I decided to life it old-style for a few hours and lived without my phone. It was not pleasant but I feel I'm getting better.
How about you?!

Sort:

I literally just went through some battery anxiety after breaking one of my cables having my phone at 4% and frantically trying to find my cable

:)) yeah when you know it's almost gone....damn!

cool nick b t way!!!

We need a decentralized charger.

hahahahahhaa.

battery begger? That's so funny, man! :)) I hope you copyrighted that expression.

We invented smartphones and became totally unsmart, lol. I've read about the economy history. And I liked the sentence where it said

Humans made up the economy to serve them, but eventually they ended up serving the economy

Same thing applies to almost all the new popular tech we invented and I see blockchain as our future master. It's in human nature.

We are prone to creating stuff that we end up being depended on.

Thanks for your view of the situation @razvanelulmarin

indeed!!

that's a good topic. It will be interesting to discuss about it.

really good comment! 1sbd for you my friend

Solution: Basic attention token... ads decrease phone battery life by as much as 21%.....BAT fix the problem(i hope)

How do you guys get those steem icons? I that your avatar?

dunno man..dunno...after that ico i'm not a fan anymore

Totally agreed with you mate. Battery percent must be under 95 and above 20 while charging

...checks phone
battery:1%
right...

You are right, the blockchain has an endless appetite and will not stop devouring everything in sight until the world is a convolution of blockchains. Lol thnx for sharing and I'm following you :)

I can remember when phones were attached to the wall and computers were main frames at the university. LOL

i remember how dial up sounds like

me too .. lol

Those were def. the days ! I never wanted technology to progress beyond pagers and compact discs - that's it! WAHOOOOOOO @rebeccabe !!

I started wearing my old fossil watch once again just so I don't look at my phone for the time. LOL.. I am freer in my mind.

haha how funny - I used to have an indiglo Superman Fossil watch - it had two hands....but no numbers! Aghghgh...so it ended up in a box not on my arm. When will technology get it right?! Life is challenging. Weeeeee~*

It does run on a battery...lol .. This one is nice.. I am going to see if I can load a shot I snapped of it for you.. fossil watch.jpg

I like it! Fossil makes a solid watch

@lanceman I had no idea .. that is a beautiful watch.. I am following you now..LOL.. see what good watches can do.. I love that watch.

haha. yet here you are on the blockchain!!!!

I have recently switched to a 10 year-old phone with a 1 week battery xD No more wasting time scrolling shit everywhere I go, I still have a smartphone with me all the time but without a sim card, if I really need to use it I'll just switch the sim card but so far that just happened 1 time.
After I did this I started talking much more to people around me that I wouldn't normally instead of constantly checking everything every 5 mins. People are too addicted to technology nowadays.
No more battery anxiety for me :D

My husband keeps saying he wants to go back to his old flip top phone.

tell him to try it xD I think a phone doesn't need to do everything, the old phones were phones, now they are computers and I always ended up using the battery life for everything else and when I needed a phone it was always dead.
I still have a smartphone but I use it mostly as a tablet

those flips were badass.

yes reminds me of the old star trek :)

yeah but can you check BLOCKFOLIO?!

I didn't know it xD I gave up trading as I sucked at it, I just HODL, no need to see everything real time, it would just stress me and If I was going to trade I'd need to go into my computer anyways

smart man alert!!!! [ but hint: keep an eye on this blog...good things are coming to help with sucking less at trading :)

Isn't it amazing how helpless we have become without our phones? We all have battery anxiety!

right?!!?! thank god im not alone in this!!

nooooooooooooooooo, i lost my phone .... i mean my mind .... lol ... i sumb without it ...lol ... nice

My cellphone service is terrible, so what you are proposing is in fact reality to me. Boooh freedom mobile. Why wont you work anywhere outside the city limits.

Unless I'm expecting a communication of some kind, I actually like putting my phone down for a few hours while letting it charge. The anxiety is less if you do it more often.
