Tired of Being Solicited on the Phone by People You Don't Know?

Are you tired of being solicited by phone? Do you get unwanted calls? Do you want off the lists?

If this applies to you, go to the National Do Not Call Registry or call 1-888-382-1222 or for TTY (hard of hearing) 1-866-290-4236. You can put yourself on the do not call list! Make sure to click the link they send you in email!

You can register up to 3 phone numbers at a time online, and you must provide a valid email address because they'll send you a link to click in order to get on the list. If you have more than 3 numbers, go through again with the rest of the numbers, and you don't have to use a different email address.

If you call the number above, make sure to call it from the phone you want to put on the list. I think you can only do 1 number at a time that way.

This service is for private numbers, not businesses and fax numbers.

Another option so that banks stop sending you pre-approved credit card offers is to call 888-5-OPTOUT. It won't help with phone calls, though.

This will not help you with scam calls but you can also report such calls to the FTC here, and you can report online scams to other agencies, such as the FBI's Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3)

Please keep in mind that robocalling (being called by a program that sounds like a person but is a recording or computer voice reading a script) is illegal except for political and charitable purposes. Being on the DNC list will NOT get you off all lists, especially for companies with which you are currently doing business, non-sales calls, and criminals. I suggest you read the Reader's Digest "Here’s the Truth About the National Do Not Call List" article for more information. The article is 2 pages long, so be sure to click the link at the bottom!
