How to control your anger

in #life7 years ago

Anger is a feeling that we all get daily. Although many psychologists believe that anger is a positive feeling, when it gets out of control it is extremely destructive. Here are 5 ways to calm your anger on the long term.

  • Delay the “explosion”

It is very hard to control yourself and to think clearly when you’re mad, but if you manage to do some breathing exercises and don’t explode immediately, you’ll have more chances to think and do the right thing. If you feel like breaking something, step aside from it. If you feel like screaming, do it, but make sure not to disturb anyone else.

  • Focus your anger on something else

When you’re feeling angry, try to write down every detail about it: how you’re feeling, what made you feel like that. If you know how to play an instrument, transfer you anger into music. No matter what your passion is, try to transfer your anger in that direction.

  • Try some yoga and meditation

Controlling your anger through physical exercise is the best way to do it. Your body will release endorphins that will help you relax. Yoga is one of the best ways to learn how to cope with your anger, and meditation is good for you, no matter if you’re angry or not. You don’t have to do yoga if you don’t like it, just try any workout you prefer and I guarantee you that you’ll see some changes in your behavior.

  • Be opened about it

If you’re feeling angry, don’t hesitate to be honest about it with others. We tend to keep our anger inside of us, until it gets to a point when it simply explodes. Stop doing that and start talking about it, it will make you feel so much better.

  • Take precautions

Try a healthier lifestyle, be active, choose a healthy diet, meditate and spend more time with your loved ones. People who live a balanced life are less likely to get angry. Start doing something that gives you energy, discover your passion and start doing things that you love. Besides that, do something nice for another person anytime you get the chance. The feeling of helping another will keep anger away.

Good post. Writing is an excellent therapy to relax and liberate all the anger that we feel. At least, that works for me.

It works for me as well. When writing I feel like releasing the anger in me drop by drop.

Great post! Thanks for sharing

I'm probably wrong, but i'm more into expressing yourself. If it's anger, bad mood, good mood, happiness, ... Rather than keeping it inside. So i like your, be open about it.
My family wouldn't agree though :)

Great post rishan! I personally exercise and go for a run every time I have something on my mind that is bothering me and have found it to be extremely helpful! Being open minded and trying to see things from other people’s perspective is also very helpful and will help you to build relationships with others.
