There is a stage in life called – “the adulthood" which is not easy. Although even the teenage age is not easy, but nobody takes much interest as they think you are still small. The actual problem of the worldly pressure occurs when you are in your adulthood. The adulthood is said to be an age where it is assumed that an individual has found his identity, has his established self, is mature, confident, responsible, purposeful, disciplined, and brave enough to handle the worldly pressures no matter what comes his way.
Adulthood is supposed to be the age where you get the most serious about your life. You have your dream job, are able to pay your bills, car loan, house loan, have found love in a partner, and are living a happy married life. But scenarios for all people are not same. Some found all till adulthood, some still struggle, while some are at a point in their life where they are totally blank, where they are unable to understand now how to move ahead in life, they lose all their confidence, feel so low that there is nothing left in the world for them. And when asked about why all it happened, they say it’s overthinking. It’s the high overthinking in life that has killed their happiness and now they are trapped in situations no one can take them out of.

Overthinking no doubt kills happiness in life. It has killed mine too. Today, I am stuck in situations I was never before in and in spite of all the scenarios of solutions in my mind I am unable to find a way out. I confess that I am in my adulthood age, and what happened with me was everything was going right in my life till I started overthinking. I overthought about the silly things like what if I lost my passport, what if I am left alone. I used to think about these silly things’ day and night. I used to work less and think more. My loved ones were paying attention to it but they were ignoring thinking that I will be alright in some time automatically. But my overthinking then continued and continued and continued. Now, I am at that point in my life that even my loved ones have stopped understanding me, they think that I am a lazy person and didn’t like to work. Today, they are not understanding me in any way. And now, I am alone with no one to talk to, only my pen and my paper.
I wake up in the morning, do the household chores, do my writing work, again do the household chores and daily it continues like this. I have become a bad person in the eyes of my loved ones and they are not understanding me in anyway no matter how hard and how many times I have tried to discuss myself.
Today, I have left everything up to God and I am just living hoping to get a solution in the near future. It is why I highly recommend adults to not overthink because overthinking actually causes problems which never existed in our life before. Overthinking makes our life worse; it makes our life hell.
Now let us discuss some ways to avoid overthinking:
1. Find a distraction
Scroll your phone, watch TV, go out hanging with your friends, spend more time with family and friends, learn some new skill, workout, do yoga, meditation, try a new recipe in your kitchen, volunteer with a local organization.
Though it’s even hard to start something new when you are entertained by your own thoughts. But even though it sounds daunting, go for it, otherwise you will get caught in an unbelievable trap which will make your life not worth living. Do any activity to distract yourself from the negative part in your life but just do it.
2. Set back and realize how you are responding
When any of the negative thought start coming to your mind, pay attention to how you are dealing with it. The moment you realize negativity is all conquering your mind, immediately stop your thoughts there and turn them into positive ones. Exchange one negative thought with one positive thought and continue like this. You will then see you are out of any unnecessary trap.
3. Devote to God
When stuck in a negative situation or irritated by negative thoughts constantly coming in your mind, just devote to God. Chant any mantra like “Radhe Radhe”, “Om Namoh Bhagwate Vasudevay Namah”, “Sitaram Radheyshyam” continuously in your head and soul. The results you will see will be unimaginable. You will feel an utmost positive vibration that will purify your soul and turn your negative thoughts into positive ones.
4. Help others
The best thing to stay out of negativity or any negative emotion conquering your head, mind, and soul is to help those in need. Go feed birds, animals. Give food to the poor. Distribute gifts and necessary things in the orphanages, do charity, donate blood, take care of the sick, elderly people, help some elder cross the road, talk positively to someone who is in the same situation as yours.
5. Acknowledge your successes
When in a negative situation or surrounded by negative thoughts, acknowledge your talents, what skills you have, what things you are good at. Doing so, will bring you in positive vibes, and help move forward.
6. Stay at present
Most of the overthinking in our minds is about what will happen in the future. So, to escape negativity try to be in the present as much as possible. Live in the present, breathe freely.
7. Write a lot
Writing is the best tactic to remove the negative thoughts from the mind. When we write it all down, we are free from the burden we are feeling inside and then we feel light. It feels like everything is sorted and we do not need to worry further.
8. Read a lot
Apart from writing, reading a lot also helps to remove stress from the mind. Choose from some of the best books on life. You will feel you are transported to a different world where everything feels so pleasant, soothing, and out of the world.
