Esta es mi segunda publicación y he decidido contarles en estos primeros post, uno a uno, mis hobbys. ¡Empecemos!
This is my second publication and I've decided to tell you in these first posts, one by one, my hobbies. Let's start!
Mis inicios en el mundo de la confección, corte y costura.
Desde niña me llamaba mucho la atención, ya que mi mamá tenía una máquina de coser y de vez en cuando la veía crear, aunque no recuerdo mucho sobre las prendas que hacía, como sus detalles o terminaciones, lo que sí tengo nítido en mi mente, es un conjunto de pantalón y chaleco que me hizo a los 14 años: era blanco de flores moradas y me gusto mucho... era hermoso.
My beginnings in the world of dressmaking, cutting and sewing.
Since I was a child I was very interested, since my mother had a sewing machine and from time to time I saw her create, although I don't remember much about the clothes she made, like their details or finishes, what I do have clear in my mind, is a set of pants and vest she made for me when I was 14 years old: it was white with purple flowers and I liked it very much... it was beautiful.
Así que cuando crecí, con mi primer salario compré mi primera máquina de coser, una Singer facilita... de costura no sabía nada literalmente, pero era algo que quería aprender, nunca tomé cursos, ya que soy muy curiosa y algo impaciente; empecé a intentarlo yo misma. No hacía grandes cosas, sólo ruedos o basta de pantalones, reparar alguna prenda descosida y cosas así, luego intente sábanas y manteles. Para el nacimiento de mi hijo le hice, todo el juego de cuna, sus sábanas, mantas y hasta sus toallas, así fui creando cada vez más cosas como pantalones (sin bolsillos), cortinas y ahí de a poco fui aprendiendo.
So when I grew up, with my first salary I bought my first sewing machine, a Singer facilitates... of sewing I did not know anything literally, but it was something that I wanted to learn, I never took courses, since I am very curious and a little impatient; I began to try it myself. I didn't do big things, just rolls or no more pants, repair some torn garments and things like that, then try sheets and tablecloths. For the birth of my son I made him the whole crib set, his sheets, blankets and even his towels, so I created more and more things like pants (without pockets), curtains and there I gradually learned.
Una de las cosas que más he disfrutado son los trajes o disfraces para mis hijos y sobrinas.
One of the things I have enjoyed the most are the costumes for my children and nieces.
Cuando mi hijo tenía 7 años, le tocó interpretar al Ángel Gabriel en una obra escolar de navidad. Con toda mi creatividad le hice este hermoso traje, que me tomó tres días terminarlo (debido a las alas). Como siempre él interpretó su papel de manera impecable, lo que lució más que su traje, me sentí tan orgullosa! por él y por el traje, que con sus hermosas alas causó sensación.
When my son was 7 years old, he played the Angel Gabriel in a school Christmas play. With all my creativity I made him this beautiful costume, which took me three days to finish (because of the wings). As always he played his role impeccably, which looked more than his costume, I felt so proud! for him and for the costume, which with its beautiful wings caused a sensation.
Años más tarde, cuando tenía mi hijo 11 años, le tocó interpretar a un personaje histórico que he admirado desde niña: Simón Bolívar, el Libertador... siendo yo su fiel admiradora me esmeré en hacerle un traje, tal como el que él usaba en sus fotografías y es el que ven a continuación. Me tomó dos días terminarlo! Y nuevamente mi hijo lo hizo tan impecablemente bien, que lució más que el traje... o digamos que el traje estaba a su altura.
Years later, when my son was 11 years old, it was his turn to play a historical character that I have admired since I was a child: Simón Bolívar, the Liberator... being his faithful admirer, I took great pains to make him a suit, just like the one he wore in his photographs and is the one you see below. It took me two days to finish it! And again my son did so impeccably, that he wore more than the suit... or let's say the suit was up to him.
Ya mi princesa había llegado a nuestras vidas y para mí era una ilusión hacerle cosas como vestidos (sencillos) pantalones, faldas y sus disfraces para el carnaval; muchas veces por falta de tiempo no tuve la oportunidad de hacerlos, pero una vez, tenía ella 4 años, me dijo que quería el disfraz de la princesita Sofía, como no lo encontré en tiendas lo intenté y así quedó, como les muestro en la foto a continuación. Les dejo el original y al lado a mi princesa con mi creación para que puedan compararlo. Me parece que son dos princesas una de cómic y otra real.
My princess had already arrived in our lives and for me it was an illusion to make her things like dresses (simple) pants, skirts and her costumes for the carnival; many times for lack of time I did not have the opportunity to make them, but once, she was 4 years old, she told me that she wanted the costume of the little princess Sofia, as I did not find it in stores I tried it and it was like that, as I show you in the picture below. I leave you the original and next to my princess with my creation so you can compare it. It seems to me that they are two princesses, one comic and one real.
Al año siguiente llegó la fiebre de Frozen, nuevamente no estaba el traje en las tiendas, así que con amor me tocó recrearlo, pero esta vez para tres princesas: mi hija y mis dos sobrinas, en esta oportunidad tuve ayuda de mi hermana y cuñada para la decoración con piedras. Y así de hermosas quedaron mis tres Elsas.
The following year the Frozen Fever arrived, again the suit was not in the stores, so with love I had to recreate it, but this time for three princesses: my daughter and my two nieces, this time I had help from my sister and sister-in-law for the stone decoration. And that's how beautiful my three Elsas were.
En otra oportunidad a mi sobrina Ámbar le tocó hacer una interpretación de hawaiana, para lo que con todo mi amor y en una tarde le diseñé este sencillo pero lindo traje. ¡Hermosa mi princesa hawaiana!
Another time my niece Ámbar had to do a Hawaiian interpretation, for which with all my love and in one afternoon I designed this simple but nice suit for her. Beautiful my Hawaiian princess!
Ya para ese tiempo también quise probar con cortinas un poco más sofisticadas y me gustó la creación de éstas, ya que tienen un proceso de confección riguroso, lástima que no tengo una foto a mano para mostrarles.
By that time I also wanted to try with a bit more sophisticated curtains and I liked the creation of these, as they have a rigorous manufacturing process, too bad I don't have a picture to show you.
Además, cada año en nuestra región (en Venezuela), se celebra la fiesta a la virgen del valle, patrona de Oriente y como fieles creyentes siempre íbamos a la misa con nuestra virgen vestida. Allá es una tradición colocarle un lindo atuendo para su celebración.
Besides, every year in our region (in Venezuela), the feast of the Virgin of the Valley, patron saint of the Orient, is celebrated and as faithful believers we always went to mass with our virgin dressed. There it is a tradition to place a nice outfit for her celebration.

Luego llegó un cambio radical del que luego les contaré con más detalles... emigrar. Este proceso cambia por completo tu vida, es como empezar de nuevo.

Bueno, en mi nueva vida ya no tenía las comodidades de antes, me tocó buscar trabajo, sin tener cédula de residencia, eso es muy complicado; además muchas personas como yo llegaron a este país y todos estábamos en lo mismo, buscando un sitio para trabajar. Ví un anuncio donde solicitaban costurera en una fábrica de uniformes, quedaba cerca de mi domicilio y era de lunes a viernes, además el sueldo era un poco más del mínimo. Me armé de valor y llamé, me indicaron que debía ir a una prueba, yo de valiente a pesar de no ser Singerista (costurera profesional de máquinas industriales) me fuí a mi prueba y, con sinceridad, le indiqué a la dueña de la empresa, quien me recibió en esa oportunidad, que me gustaba la costura, que tenía una máquina casera en Venezuela y que si ella me daba la oportunidad, yo podría sacarle la cantidad de producción que requerían por día (80 chalecos reflectantes, tipo vial). Obvio que le dije que me diera unos días, porque necesitaba aprender y tomar el ritmo. Me dijo que hiciera la prueba y ella lo pensaría, así que me pasaron las piezas y no es algo complicado, lo armé como en 25 minutos. Era mucho tiempo para esa confección, pero por lo menos lo hice.
Well, in my new life I didn't have the comforts I used to have, I had to look for a job, without having a residence permit, that's very complicated; besides, many people like me came to this country and we were all in the same situation, looking for a place to work. I saw an ad where they were asking for a seamstress in a uniform factory, it was near my home and it was from Monday to Friday, besides the salary was a little more than the minimum. I got up the courage to call, they told me that I had to go to a test, I was brave in spite of not being a singer (a professional seamstress of industrial machines) and I went to my test and, with sincerity, I told the owner of the company, who received me on that occasion, that I liked sewing, that I had a homemade machine in Venezuela and that if she gave me the opportunity, I could get the amount of production they required per day (80 reflective vests, road type). Obviously I told her to give me a few days, because I needed to learn and take the pace. She told me to do the test and she would think about it, so I passed the pieces and it's not something complicated, I put it together in about 25 minutes. It was a long time for that assembly, but at least I did it.
Me fui a casa y por suerte habían seleccionado a otra chica que fue a la prueba, recuerdo que era una chica colombiana... cuando digo por suerte es porque la chica no se presentó a trabajar. Entonces me llamaron a mi. Ahí empecé. El primer día hice 29 chalecos y a la semana ya hacía los 80 que había prometido. Bueno me extendí en el cuento, el punto es que, luego de los chalecos me tocó aprender lo que es confección tipo profesional: hacer chaquetas, pantalones y overoles entre otros. Ahora le hago pantalones a mi esposo tal como comprados en tienda y me siento más capaz de hacer cualquier prenda de vestir. Actualmente me estoy instruyendo en hacer patrones de blusas y vestidos desde las medidas.
I went home and luckily they had selected another girl who went to the test, I remember it was a Colombian girl... when I say luckily it's because the girl didn't show up for work. Then they called me. There I began. The first day I made 29 vests and a week I was already doing the 80 that I had promised. Well, I extended the story, the point is that, after the vests I had to learn what is professional clothing: making jackets, pants and overalls among others. Now I make my husband's pants just like they were bought in the store and I feel more capable of making any garment. I am currently training myself to make patterns for blouses and dresses from measurements.
Estando mi hija en segundo grado, en su colegio decidieron celebrar las fiestas patrias, haciendo en cada curso la interpretación de bailes internacionales, increíblemente al grado a de mi hija les tocó representar un baile venezolano, para lo que por supuesto me esmeré en hacerla brillar, para que fuera digna representante de su país de nacimiento, para esto le elaboré este hermoso traje con estas espectaculares flores tricolor para su cabello. Y tal como me lo propuse, causó sensación.
When my daughter was in second grade, in her school they decided to celebrate the national holidays, doing in each course the interpretation of international dances, incredibly my daughter's grade had to represent a Venezuelan dance, for which of course I took great care to make her shine, so that she would be worthy of representing her country of birth, for this I made her this beautiful suit with these spectacular tricolor flowers for her hair. And just as I set out to do, it caused a sensation.
Hace aproximadamente un año tuve la oportunidad de comprar una máquina Overlock y hace como un mes, una recta industrial, ambas usadas. Requirieron del increíble poder de mi esposo de repararlo todo, gracias a él, ambas funcionan y me hace muy feliz tenerlas a pesar de que coser es sólo un hobby en mi vida, ya que aún trabajo en la fábrica, pero en área administrativa, tengo un buen salario ahora y a pesar de la cuarentena por la pandemia y de la estricta reducción de personal, aún conservo mi puesto de trabajo... y pensar que llegué ahí gracias a uno de mis hobbies.
About a year ago I had the opportunity to buy an Overlock machine and about a month ago, an industrial straight, both used. They required the incredible power of my husband to repair everything, thanks to him, both work and it makes me very happy to have them even though sewing is only a hobby in my life, since I still work in the factory, but in the administrative area, I have a good salary now and despite the quarantine because of the pandemic and the strict reduction of personnel, I still have my job... and to think that I got there thanks to one of my hobbies.

Ese es un hobby que te ha traído tantas satisfacciones y hasta te conectó con tu trabajo actual... Siempre he tenido la intención de aprender ese arte, pero las veces que lo intento, me doy cuenta de que hace falta mucha paciencia, no me gusta descoser y la máquina va por un lado y yo por otro, jajaja.
