The famous and controversial show starring Édgar Ramírez as Gianni Versace, Darren Criss as Cunanan, Ricky Martin as Antonio D' Amico, Gianni’s boyfriend, and Penélope Cruz as Donatella Versace, is based on Maureen Orth’s research work: ‘Vulgar Favors: Andrew Cunanan, Gianni Versace, and the Largest Failed Manhunt in US History', published in 1999.
This season tells the story of the tragic murder of Gianni Versace, likewise, it narrates the dark past of the murderer, Andrew Cunanan, who had already killed four people before meeting Versace.

Some of you will think that so far is the most 'bland' episode of the season. In my opinion, it is one of the best episodes, here are my reasons:
The episode is called 'Creator / Destroyer' and is nothing more than a preview of what we would see in the episode. None other than the creator and the same destroyer of Andrew's life; his father. Yup, in this episode we managed to understand the reasons why Andrew Cunanan arrives at such deterioration to become a serial killer.
Not only we see that Andrew had a ‘rich lifestyle’, which was taken away in the blink of an eye, which is why he has an exotic taste for an expensive life. While it is true, we are used to seeing this character dating older men, who give him that luxurious life, oh, that sounds like: his father * wink *. So, could we say that Andrew murders these older men as a reference to his most wanted wish: to kill his father?
Throughout the episode they also teach us how Andrew knows his best friend and how he had a normal life, without lying about who he really was.
The only flaw I find in this episode is in the beginning, where we see Versace in his youth with his mother in Italy. I do not think it's realistic that they speak English when it comes to an Italian town, anyway, it isn’t of great importance. Some complain that the season should have been called ‘American Crime Story: The Murders of Andrew Cunanan’ but let's be honest, how much could you tell about Andrew's story with Gianni that we haven’t seen so far? I think it's brilliant what they've done with the story.
And of course, let’s give it a round of applause to Matt Bomer for his work directing this episode!
American Crime Story: The Assassination of Gianni Versace an FX Original. Every Wednesdays at 10pm. 53:52 TV-MA
