" If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer. Let him step to the music which he hears, however measured or far away."
- Henry David Thoreau
The saddest thing Nigeria does to its young is to tear us down, brick by brick, till there's no faith or hope left and we are all dead inside. It's the worst to watch or experience.
We need to fight, we need to rise, we need to be better, we need to allow ourselves hurt for every injustice and make sure we live our lives to ensure no one else passes through the rough places that made us weep! When the system is rigged against you, you can't give up. You fight anyway. The only way they win is if we let them!
We need to keep our conscience, our basic humanity, we need a place of sanity right inside us where we can hold on to whom we are so that we don't lose it.
Nigeria delivers constant, unyielding doses of mental trauma but so does the best of furnaces. We could choose to be gold, not dross. Let the trauma shape, not distort you. Rise above, feel the pain, let it burn but not sear!
Do right, as much as you can! Do right, by everyone you meet! Be kind, be punctual, be faithful, stay in queues, drive safely, don't sell yourself short. Avoid the banal, empty crap that sells so much nowadays. Love, give, expect nothing in return. No one may seem to value these today but they matter! They do! And soon we'll see you rising!
This am sure of!
Our system may well be insanity but who says we should go right along?
Step out of tune with all this madness! Dance to a different beat! you won't always hear it clearly. Lord knows it's hard to hear anything different from the noise around, but keep it in your heart and step to that music. The sound you heard so clearly when you believed in love and country and you truly thought everything was possible!
Let the child in you survive all these and someday it will all be worth it!
Have a nice day folks!
