I was at a funeral a while ago and as the casket with the body of the deceased was lowered into the grave, a rather large tombstone caught my eye. The dates under the name read ; 12 May 1934 — 30 August 1997. A thought struck me and was so profound that I had to take a deep breath.
I realized that those dates weren't so important! It was that little line in the middle. Just a dash. A beginning to an end. That little line represented all the time which that man spent on Earth. His Life! Now only those who loved him and knew him could know what that little line was worth. With tears in my eyes I realized all that mattered was how he spent his unique life.
For it matters not how much we own; cars, cash a house. I thought long and hard, examining myself. Do I have things I need and have to change to make my little line of some worth?
We have to slow down enough to know what's truth, what's our reality. Try to understand the feelings of others as they walk their little line.
Be slow to anger quick to assist, appreciate more. Let's love the people in our lives like never before. Let's treat others with respect and wear an endearing smile. Remember that this little line might only last a little while.
So when your eulogy is read with all your life's actions remembered, would you be happy with how you spent your little line?
